OnePlus 6T to get in-screen fingerprint sensor

The upcoming OnePlus 6T smartphone will have an in-screen fingerprint sensor, CNET reports.

OnePlus confirmed the hardware feature in an email to CNET, branding its in-display fingerprint reader solution as Screen Unlock.

I think it's slower than the conventional way. Might be why.

Yeah, it's kinda disgraceful that OnePlus has been able to churn out so many excellent phones at amazing prices when the big companies can't get close. I still don't see anything like my OnePlus 6 on the market, with a top 5 camera, razor-thin body, metal construction, brilliant display, battery life that won't die in a day, top of the line specs, something close to an all-screen front design and a sensible price.

Then you go and place the OnePlus 6T (in a few months) next to the new Sony XZ3 and witness a tragedy. It feels like Sony have given up entirely.

Exceptionally unlikely in the case of the OP6T. You are correct that existing in-display fingerprint readers are slow, but the fingerprint readers in the OnePlus 5, 5T and 6 are amongst the fastest (if not the fastest) in existence at 0.2s. And OnePlus always boasts about how fast they are at the unveiling presentations.

It's a safe bet that if they're making the jump to in-display fingerprint readers, the tech has matured and is at least fast enough to not warrant sparing a thought about in daily use.

I will be watching this closely - my old OP3 is starting to sow its age and the cracked screen isn't helping.

What? OnePlus is a child company of Oppo, the 4th largest smartphone manufacturer.
