The OnePlus 2 pushes the boundaries of how cheap a flagship phone can be

OnePlus 2 goes official with Snapdragon 810 and $329 price tag

Pricing of the OnePlus 2 kicks off at $329 for a model with 16GB of built-in memory. The 64GB top-end version will cost $389.

OnePlus 2 will have StyleSwap covers with various finishes that include bamboo, kevlar, black apricot, and rosewood. Black with sandstone finish will be the default choice out of the box.

As expected, OnePlus 2 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in memory. The handset’s display has remained unchanged in size and resolution from OnePlus One - it is a 5.5” 1080p unit. The latter is brighter and with more accurate color reproduction than the screen found in OnePlus One.

The camera of the smartphone is a 13MP unit with optical image stabilization, laser focus, and 1.3 µm pixels. Video capture capabilities include 4K clips, as well as 720p slow-motion footage at 120fps. A 5MP front-facing unit will be in charge of selfies.

The fingerprint sensor found in OnePlus 2 is said to be faster than the one found in iPhone 6. Users can store up to five fingerprints in the device. A 3,300mAh battery powers the handset.

USB Type-C is the standard connectivity port on OnePlus 2. There will be a bundled adapter which will allow users to take advantage of microUSB accessories. OnePlus 2 will also feature dual-nanoSIM functionality, as well as 4G LTE connectivity.

Physical measures of the device are 151.8 x 74.9 x 9.85 mm. Its weight tips the scale at 175 grams.

Once again OnePlus will require an invite for its latest smartphone. However, this time around the manufacturer promises that invites will be much easier to get a hold of due to larger inventory.

OnePlus 2 will be available to order in a number of key markets on August 11. More countries will get the device later this year.

Aint it the 810 that gets so hot it melts through the back cover? :p

As with many other recent top-tier smartphones, the OnePlus 2 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810, a chipset consisting of a 1.8GHz octa-core 64-bit processor and an Adreno 430 GPU. In light of said chip's overheating rumors from earlier this year, OnePlus specifically pointed out that it's using the cooler 810 v2.1 which, in combination with the thermal gel and graphite stuffed into the body, should keep the phone palm-friendly in most cases (Qualcomm tells us that "virtually all OEMs who have announced devices based on the Snapdragon 810 processor are currently using version 2.1").

I'm loving that quick notification change button on the LHS. Can't wait to get an invite eventually. Still going strong with my OnePlus One, but this will be a nice addition.

Just curious, some of you guys say you are gonna get invites, but how will you get the device to SA, since Oneplus does not ship here?

Same way most of us got our Oneplus One's here. Shipping forwarder like Stackry or MyUS.

Doesn't that work out quite expensive though? I was checking now, for a 3kg package it would be around $120 which is almost 35% of the price of the device...

Not really.

My Oneplus One cost a total of: R5376.31 in December 2014.
64GB OPO ($350) that included a tempered glass protector and a plastic cover/case, shipping from OPO to USA address, Stackry to ship via Fedex (took 3.5 days from them in the US to my hands in Durban) and customs and clearance fees.

One of my company's suppliers deals with the factory. Getting one from Hong Kong, someone from there is coming to Sa on Sunday and brining it along for me
