Hey all, could anyone point me to the correct path which online backups to use for businesses and clients i can go for?

We have a few clients looking for online backup solutions for data either on the local machine or on servers and if something hits the fan to still retrieve it back.

What's the best Online backups to use these days that have good support and software and prices that won't cost a arm and leg.

Hi Shirou,

I would look at Amazon Glacier backup, the backups are extremely inexpensive, and they only generally charge for retrieval of data.

Hi Shirou,

Give mrbackup.biz a try. They offer onsite & cloud backup, plus off site storage of data. SA company with head office in Cape Town

If you are running VMware or HyperV then you can look at Veeam Backup and Recovery. It will create full image backups of your servers and allows various levels of recovery from files, to applications (Exchange mailboxes, AD object, MSSQL databases) to full machines. If your internet pipe is big enough you can walk in the initial seed and run the incrementals daily. We've built a full Backup and DR service around this which allows us to bring customer systems up in our DC in the event of a complete site failure.

For desktops you can use Veeam Endpoint (free). This also does full image backups (or just files). If you want to monitor it you can integrate it with Veeam B&R which will send you reports of failures and give you a central overview of backups.

Feel free to get in touch via PM if you want to chat about Veeam.

Hi Clarotech, used Veeam before but don't have any VMware or HyperV servers for this client, mainly just need an online backup solution that we can resell and use for our clients, most probably to go with an application you install on Desktop / Server which you can select what to be backed up etc..

No problem :)

There was another product we looked at called StorageCraft for bare metal systems. Not as easy to use or intuitive as Veeam, but it worked. You could probably also roll your own solution around Veeam Endpoint (it supports Windows server), but you'll be on your own if it doesn't work as expected, so make sure you test it regularly.

We're finding more and more that it's not just about getting the data back, but customers want the systems up and running asap. So full image really is the way to go.

Thanks for the feedback, will see what i can do and read up on Storagecraft as well :)

I've setup the free endpoint on two clients for testing purposes last week, to see what reporting features it will give us.

I can see it in the Veeam B&R Console, that's all fine, just can't see where/how to setup any kind of reporting on them

Don't you get online storage with OneDrive when you buy Office 365 for a small fee?

If you have email reports already configured in B&R for your server backups you will automatically get email reports for endpoint based on what you set (i.e. mail on error only or mail everything).

There are some clever scripts floating around on the Veeam forums that generate reports from the endpoints themselves. I also saw mention of a partnership with a 3rd party to provide central monitoring for endpoint, but it's not out yet.

Thanks found it now, haven't logged into the mailbox where those mails goes for ages. Was scratching around in Backup Enterprise Manager, never looked at the mails

You can also see the reports in the B&R console: History -> Jobs -> Endpoint
