Ever feel like the nasties online are trying to break down your self esteem? Well, according to research firm Pew Internet you will then be one of the 32% that feel bullied and harassed online … that’s if you are a teenager.

It seems that teens are increasingly becoming targets of online harassment with the disclosure of personal communications being one of the biggest fears expressed by this group.

But most teens in the study stated that they are more likely to be bullied offline than online.
The epidemic of bullying may be due in part to an increased awareness of the issue or it may simply be a social phenomenon that is rising but online bullying is not something that I think parents need to be concerned about.

In fact I think it is quite ridiculous that teens are even feeling bullied online … just leave if it’s not so nice there. Go to another forum or change your details and take on a tough-guy persona. It’s the Internet for Pete’s Sake … no one’s going to punch you through the screen.

In the online sphere the problem is easily eradicated, unlike the offline environment.
For teens who fear becoming victims of bullying the message is clear … don’t share your personal information online if you don’t want it to be made public.
