Not sure if im in the correct section.

I have started an online shop. Wanted to know if anybody can give me advice or tips to get more hits to my website.

Been reading up on SEO's. How do i go about getting searched in Google without paying for Google Ad words?

Any advice is MOST welcomed.

There are many SEO specialty websites, and I have not been able to reduce it to a science. But the basics are to do reciprocal links, or links a tripod link where you have a site that links to the site you want to link to your site. Also use a product like Alexa, and see the search words you competitor products are using. Set up your website and website map with the various search engine, eg webmaster.google.com (which will also help with the search words). Make sure your meta tags are unique in each page. And post to as many directories as you can, especially those that do not require reciprocal links. The search engines also change their algorithms so you need to work at it evey week. The age of your domain is also important apparantely. Good luck

Depending on your business, the best you can do to get your website searched more is by publishing "articles" (500 words or less). Well written "How To" or informational articles relating to your business and then submitting them to the hundreds of article directories out there is the most effective way to get noticed.

Meta keywords/descriptions (non repeating non keyword stuffing kind) and SEO friendly urls

Submit your sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools (if you haven't signed up, sign up!) and install analytics. It will help you determine how much Google crawls your site. Which keywords people search for and which products are more popular. You can also setup "Goals" whereby you will then be able to extract how many of the visitors actually went through to (for example) checkout, and how many of those that went through to checkout went through and bought something. Etc

It will take months of fine tuning and article submissions. Having the link to your site in your signature on forums linking keywords is also always helpful.

For example, instead of going My online shop: www.myonlineshop.com

Go, for a Check out this site for a (startlink)great deal on Ass washing machines(endlink)

Also search this forum for more tips, been discussed endlessly

It is, one of my sites are 10 years old, and I've had it up and down over the years, not really doing something with it. Then when I did start a blog, I got hundreds of hits in the first few weeks without marketing at all. Google just did it's job and people found me very easily.
