I am trying to create an online catalogue for internal use.
Right now we are paging thru printed catalogs that are not very accurate so there are amendments and notes scribbled everywhere, and when one goes missing all its notes and so on goes with it.

It will basically be a bunch of drop downs with a information box at the bottom.
So as you select options it filters down until it displays the info you are looking for.

I have been trying to find a Joomla plugin that can do this.
I would think this to be the simplest of tasks. It would need to have a CSV import and export option, no graphics or anything fancy like that.

Does anyone know of a plugin that can do this? Hopefully for Joomla, but I suppose for any opensource CMS would be ok.
Otherwise what would it cost to put this together?

I'v researched a bit on this.

Some points

- you can use Magento for a cataloge and remove the 'price' and replace "add to cart" to "add to quote" (or remove altogether)

- You get the all the catalog features, just no shopping features.

Now it gets better.

There is an extension that can export the entire catalogue, or sub categories or specific pages to a PDF. You can set the PDF to have your logo/address at the top, image in centre, and description below.

Did a similar concept on our www.TerrificTrophies.co.za store, works brilliantly! Although we are displaying prices.

How i'm using it: Generate a PDF catalogue, get it printed and binded professionally, print about 10 or 20 books. Keep it in the showroom and post a few to bigger customers or potential clients. Working on getting it printed cheaper for mass distribution.

Just not sure how it handles footnotes (if this is even possible)

I have looked at using a e-commerce extension, but its too complex. I installed virtuemart onto joomla and played around with that.

It needs to be quick and simple. We will often be using this while customers are on the phone and while customers are there. I would eventually like to allow my customers use it too.

I was thinking a contact list or phone book would probably be better.

Nice stores tho!

Still on the hunt.

This is the kind of thing I am looking for, except I want it to display the results below automatically instead of having a submit button.

Ideally I'm looking to plug it into joomla, but I could just display it in a frame if I need to.

This is fairly simple to code, you dont have any coding experience?

I would use a CMS system to do the content side but write custom code to import, display and filter all the items.

No real coding experience. I like to play around and I could probably figure it out, but I just dont have the time on this.

The problem with trying to find a plug-in is that invariably your going to have to customise it because your not following the norm on this one.
