Thought I would get an opinion about the online gaming numbers in South Africa.

Which of the following are the best online games to play in South Africa at this moment? I would like to know who plays the following games, and do they like and recommend it, and why. And please no flaming other games, I want to be serious.

1. Vanguard Saga of heroes
2. Lord on the rings online
3. Dungeon and Dragons online
4. Everquest 2
5. Eve Online
6. World of Warcraft

If there are other online games to mention please do. This is the only ones I’m interested in.

Guildwars is very popular and there are a number of South African guilds.

LOTR online has not officially been launched in South Africa yet, so it remains to be see how popular it will be.
 
I don't play that many MMORPGs but I did give GuildWars a go. Wasn't for me in the end. I don't really have much time to play and for games like GW and WoW you need to put in some big hours.

Give me an online FPS anyday. :)
 
I know very little about any of those dude :) As such I doubt they are popular in SA unfortunately :(

Some popular ones I know of are:

Battlefield 2
Guild Wars (I can vouch for..I met quite a few SAfricans and bandwidth not an issue for this game at all)
Armed Assualt (Not a big community but seems to be growing in favour of that Evolution Coop map)
UT2004 (Dont' know about lately though)

I bet the older ones are still popular like Quake3 and CStrike Source and Dota for Warcraft etc..

I can say World of Warcraft has a significant number of players in SA but from what I gather is that latency is a huge issue and also the monthly subscriptions are a big let down :(

See that’s my problem, I played all of these games, excluding Vanguard, while in Scotland. And coming back home and starting all over again, is a total bitch, thus the question. I only got a budget of so much, and can only play one game, thus why play something nobody else is playing; I kind of like the idea of a SA guild, something like Impies van Boksburg :)

If you are slightly interested in Console gaming there is a huge contingency of SA gamers playing

Gears of War
Halo 3 beta
Rainbow 6
PGR
Dead or Alive..
 
I think there is an SA Guild in guild wars :) at least there was when I was playing a while back. Cant remember details though.

I was leader of Myth of the Dark Phoenix for a while and during that time there were around five to ten SA players in my guild. Our Guild initially broke off from Myth of the Phoenix but later rejoined as part of a huge alliance. Just after that I stopped playing unfortunately. The ANSI alliance I think it was, which was renamed either before or after.

I think your best bet is Guild Wars although it will take plenty and I mean "plenty" of time.
 
I play LOTRO - a huge LOTR fan, read the Hobbit and LOTR countless times, read the Lays of Bereliand, The Silmarillion and many of Tolkiens other Post-Humous publications

Played a little bit of WoW and Anarchy Online - also played a bit of EQ1 back in the day.

To me LOTRO is pretty much a WoW clone with some extra bells and whistles. Its fun to play - but on the whole there are many things wrong with it.

I would save the time and money and wait for Age of Conan - which looks to revolutionize MMOrpg combat systems at least.

I would love to play in an AoC SA Guild/Kinship.

I find Online gaming never ending and you put you precious time into. I played guildwars for 150 hours, and found myself not interested any more.

It just takes to dam long to do stuff.

Fast paced games are just better in my idea.
 
Alot of SA people play WoW and GW. GW is slightly better on our links, as everything is instance based. Both games have quite a few SA guilds.
 
where can u find everqeust2? i looked for it but i could not find it anywhere.and Is it just a online game?
 
I have played : Guild Wars ( a LOT), WoW ( a Little), Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach (more than wow)

Mmm Guild Wars is really good, i will probably always play it (on and off)

DDO is also quite good, just when i played (soon after it came out) there were only a few players... Now i hear there are more but i dont see myself starting it up again, the quests were really good though, really felt like i accomplished something when i did each one...
 
I played Guild wars for quite a while (whole factions campaign) There is still quite a bit ZA following.

seeing as you don't specify MMO, you have to consider
Battlefield 2 / 2142
Counterstrike

As probably being the two most played SA games.

And I'll add to Gavin's 2c, there's a heck of a lot of people now playing Gears of War and Forza 2 online.
