I have been suscribing to an online ww2 flight simulator with ping return times measuring in the 400ms range. About 2 months ago (Cape Town) the game became totally erratic with ping times ranging from 530 ms to possibly 3 seconds with occassional lost packets. after trying 808 and 1555 and a couple of other numbers given me and new script strings I discovered that the ping times returned to the 400ms range while on the phone to these help desks. As soon as I hung up the ping times would become erratic and never below 530ms. (it seems like a voice call would suddenly open up the way ).

Is there anyway this can be rectified (like a dummy line that I can call that will never switch off and not bill me either ;) ).

Well, I have found a workaround the ping latency problem. (it works on irc chat as well)

One has to dial voicemail and then give an incorrect menu select key which allows voicemail to forever ask for the correct key. while this voice call is on, ping stays stable while using the phone to connect to internet at the same time. I use a stepper motor with an arm that every minute presses the incorrect menu key on my phone to maintain the link with my voice mail.

Though I really cannot see why mtn cannot prioritize udp packets unless I connect to a voice channel as well.
