I'm having trouble connecting to steam. I also can't find any online servers.
I have ruled out any firewall problems as all this is working over dailup.
I have re-installed steam and windows... The steam update seems to be working fine, and if I type in the wrong password it tells me so, it is only after that, that i get the error connecting to steam.
I have 92 - 100% signal and have changed my MTU to 1392.
Any other ideas?

Perhaps you are just experiencing the stuttering/unresponsiveness problem (like the rest of us), have you tried the Workaround?

Failing that I have no idea bcos eyes no gamer.

Solved

Changed to Ethernet cable and it is fixed!! One more thing, cow I get that iburst terminal to work without the usb cable and drivers? And I've read that some people change towers manually, how?!!

I've tried to get the USB to work while the ethernet is connected so you can use the UTD Terminal. No luck. Either or I'm afraid.

I got HL2 on Sunday (2 days ago).... steam worked fine, can't get the game to run!!! Grrrrr.

Half Life

I had a similar problem over the past few days with the copy I installed a couple of weeks ago. The "Initializing..." dialog box appeared and then terminated prematurely. I tried two things. The first was temporarily adding "+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1" to the command in the properties for Half Life 2. The second was running a background ping to improve response time from iBurst.

Something must have worked since it downloaded the most recent patch file and ran again.

Buck I had been having problems gaming on line, specifically due to SUPER high latency. I then switched to the ethernet cable and it sorted my problem out too. Weird.

I could not even find a server?!
Now with the ethernet hookup I'm getting pings between 45 and 140!

Does anyone know why this could be? Problem with driver maybe?
