Rather amature question:

I am on a 3GB 384kbps ADSL line, is this enough to play online, mainly considering the cape size?

lol
384 is perfect, even 192 will work.
if u a Gaming freak who plays 24/7 3gb wont be adequite.
Whats your ISP?
Make sure you get a SAIX isp, lower pings to SGS(south african servers)

This could be a good topic for a sticky.

Everyone who can please post:

1)Your connection speed
2)What game/games you play
3)How much bandwidth the game/games uses per hour
4)How much of your cap you use for games
5)What ISP you use plus your ping

To answer your question, yes you could play online with what you have if you limit yourself. But it really depends on the game you play.

1. Dsl 192
2. Play Css, World of warcraft and dota (sometimes q4)
3. Not sure per hour
4. I used about 4-5gb last month on gaming alone. Bearing in mind i play about 5-9 hours a day :D (but im on holiday thats y)
5. Isp is cybersmart and on sgs i get about 40-65 ping on css; wow i get between 500 and 1500 ping dota i get about 45-100. Q4 is about 80.

384 is perfect for gaming. Also 3gb is enough if you will just use it for gaming and play about 2-3 hours a day.

1. ADSL 192K telkom line
2. Totally hooked on World of Warcraft
3. Dont know yet....
4. They say about about 10-20MB/ hour
5. ISP is Saix 2GB cap

I run a download and play WOW and I get between 300 - 600ms latency. I am going to test it again this weekend.

Gun
lvl45 Warrior
lvl25 Paladin
lvl10 Druid

1. DSL192
2. Battlefield 2
3. 30-40Mb ??? VoIP dependant
4. Casual gamer, 2-3 hours a night
5. Web Africa. With a bit of downloading and a keen eye, Iusually scrape in under 3Gb.

1. 512 DSL
2. BF2/ Q4 [sometimes]/ WoW [soon] and Need for Speed Most Wanted
3. Different games = different bandwidth usage
4. Don't know [probably 1GB]
5. MWEB [*blames dad*]..going to get SAOL 10GB or possibly AYCE/30GB in April.

384
only bf 2
40mb i think
well i used around 8 gigs last month and all i did was play bf 2 and surf the net
saol 10 gig

1) 192 DSL (contrary to popular belief - it has double the bandwidth needed for games)
2) Battlefield 2/Call of Duty/Counter-Strike Source/World of Warcraft
3) Battlefield 2 - 40-50MB/hour (depends on VOIP)
Call of Duty - 20-30MB/hour
Counter-Strike Source - 20-30MB/hour
World of Warcraft - practically nothing
4) So much it's scary
5) Different ISPs - currently on allyoucaneat 30GB

1) 1024 ADSL
2) Mostly Guild Wars (362 hours in last 58 days according to game - now I am worried)
3) Not sure
4) November: Total Usage Month = 1.680 Gb (This includes work usage)
5) SOAL unshaped

How much will lets say Quake 3 or Counterstrike eat out of your cap?
Why i am asking these is also because my dad uses the line for work, so i cant leave him with no internet.

1)384kbps
2)dont yet
3)what i want to know?
4)geuss ill find out!
5)Using Mweb

1. DSL 384
2. Guildwars/World of Warcraft *USA*
3. Pretty much nothing...5/7mb an hour?
4. Total use p/m i would guess on gaming under 1,5 gigs.
5. SAOL - 10 Gig shaped + NukeCaps Lowping VPN (300-500ms Int) Runs great.
