Your question is rather broad.

Once you have purchased your multiplayer game/s you should be able to connect with your friends or
multiplayer servers online through your internet connection.

If you are having problems with a certain game etc. Rather post that game related question or look for help on the game/s website.

If you are looking to start playing online games, look for a game you are interested in on Steam and purchase it. The best way is to speak to your friends and see what they are playing or look on steam what is popular.
