Hi,
We posted a vacancy for a online manager who will initially assist in managing our company websites, online queries, start off a online sales for motor vehicles etc.

The issue with the CV's is either job hoppers or if you look at the applicants own websites they absolutely pathetic.

If you cant create a nice website for yourself how can you do manage being a online manager.

Any ideas where we can find someone like this???

You need to decide what it is you want, a manager or a designer. You can't ask why someone who is applying for a position of online manager can't create a descent looking website, s/he may not a have any graphics ability. That, however, does not mean they can't manage an online environment.

I've been doing web dev for 14 years and I won't tackle my own website, I just can't do the graphics required to do my own site justice. That's why there's multiple job designations in the web environment.

In many large companies management is a skill unto itself: it has very little to do with what is being managed.

As many have discovered, 'promoting' a skilled programmer / graphics artist / whatever to the position of manager is a major mistake.

What you should be looking for is a manager. And if they know something of web design, so much the better ...

Firstly your pnet advert is poorly punctuated. Secondly you do appear to be asking for everything, plus the kitchen sink (MS Office?? If the other skill requirements are met, you can pretty much bank on someone having MS Office)

Thirdly, you don't have any experience requirements. Fourthly, you dont have any salary guidance, so there is no way to tell what kind of experience you are looking for (Junior, senior, somewhere in the middle?)

It just comes across, in my opinion, as being rather slap-dash, rushed, small organisation, small salary kind of role. If thats what you're going for then you can expect what you're getting I suppose. If you're after higher level candidates think about the above points.

You seem to need at least two people (or more).
* A very competent Graphics Designer with web experience. (Designing for web is different from print)
* Some one with Manager skills (Project management & Marketing skills) that can manage all the marketing campaigns.
* Web developer to physical build the web site and maintain the content. (probably cheaper to outsource (with a maintenance contract) if you have a small site.)
