Online outcry over aggressive SAPS in #FeesMustFall protest

So would the alternative of allowing a mob to storm into a sitting of a democratically elected parliament be preferable? What, exactly would they like the SAPS to do?

The SAPS behaved no differently to the US police during the Occupy protests. In both scenarios, unarmed men and women are routinely beaten and injured by police officers. This happens from New York to London, to Moscow, to Pretoria, to PE. The right to peaceful protest, is the right to not be seen and heard, while you swear out the system in the privacy of your living room. The moment you step into the open, make yourself seen and heard, the state security forces will break your bones and make you bleed. It's called democracy and freedom. You have the right to vote, and then you had better STFU.

If by "peaceful protest" you mean hurling objects at the police and storming the gates of your democratically elected parliament, then yes, I would have to agree with you. Please show me a single country on the planet that would allow an unruly mob to overrun it's parliament. IMHO the SAPS acted with remarkable restraint compared to what would happen in a similar situation in most other countries.

What did you expect the SAPS to do when a mob of people pushed through the gates and stormed the parliament grounds?

The protesters can count themselves lucky that the cops didn't resort to live ammo.
