I'm setting up a website design uh... website :sly: That sounds weird when you read that...
Anyway, I want to be able to receive payment via credit cards. EFT details will be on the site but I want to give my clients as many choices as possible. I've had a look at payfast and paygate so far and these look decent. Has anyone had any experiences with these gateways? Any better alternatives I should check out? Basically, all I need is for the payment to be made. Nothing fancy. Ease of use for the customer is paramount. oh and I'm not expecting international clientele.

You can try mygate.co.za and skrill.com :)

Thanks for the suggestions mubz and adam_g.
Each gateway seems to be offering something different - So I did a quick comparison ...

I need to request a quote from PayGate to get their fees (which put me off it immediately).
PayFast is looking pretty good at the moment as I'm not expecting high volume and no monthly fee is a big plus but their per transaction fee is a little steep and they have a withdrawal fee.
VCS is also a good choice for me at the moment with their low transaction fees so if volumes pick up that would work out cheaper than payfast and mubz recommends it :D
MyGate is more costly than VCS but without the withdrawal fees. Still trying to figure out what two free users means.
Skrill needs customer signup before use which is a big no for me and looks like it will be overkill for my needs anyway.

On the 3rd of Feb I start work as Operations Manager at the company that runs a product called PayD.

PayD allows authenticated debit card transactions via electronic channels ie. E-commerce.

If this is something you will be interested in I can let you know about costs etc. once I actually start en get into it.

Setup a merchant account with paypal. I would not use local providers, there is one in particular i would stay very far from. Lets just say there systems architecture is pretty bad, as is there data warehousing.

while you searching combine what platform for your site is in and see which one offers plugins for the site you building - this could be a large contributing factor.
