Online Poker

Holy crap this is a shocker!! I didnt know that. I know of quite a few people that use forex and arent aware of this.

Bleh, so i guess ill withdraw my $10 and call it a day for online poker...

...discovered, this little fact, when I tried to get my profits back into the country...had a to pay a pretty penny, in USD terms to have access to my funds...but it can be done.

From a tax point of view, yes....

BUT that would require legislation etc etc which takes ages.

I am not sure it's worth it. The thing is to figure out how much of the population would actually do online gambling.

The govt would have to hire experts to help create the legislation. Regulatory bodies would be consulted (sure that would be a cost).

So it goes back to how much of the population would do online gambling.

Considerably more than you think, and the money is definitely there.

Not to mention that the local casinos like Emperors or Monte would probably love to get in on the action with their own gambling site or app.

Online gambling is much bigger than just poker.

What exactly is the difference betwen online gambling and going to the casino? Absolute BUGGERALL. But the poor flocks to the casinos and nothing gets done about that. I think the online gambler most likely have a bit more between the ears as well. But yes, we're dealing with a total bunch of IDIOTS.

Well the big difference would be licenses, tax and such...

As for your other opinion... each to their own.

I'm glad it's illegal. Back in the days I spend way too much at PiggsPeak casino... :p

na they should bring it back, was so much fun back in the day.

Silversands Poker is operating illegally following the SCA Judgement of PiggsPeak (Casino Enterprises) vs the GGB (http://www.justice.gov.za/sca/judgments/sca_2011/sca2011-155.pdf).

In fact, all online casino operators offering casino or poker games are operating illegally. This doesn't prevent you from playing on the illegal site.

If you are, however, still playing you have the following options:
1. Silversands has accounts with all local banks under a name that is NOT "Silversands". Deposits, cashouts etc are subject to no more scrutiny from the commercial bank or SARB than a normal EFT/Local Card transaction as opposed to a foreign exchange transaction which will have all sorts of questions asked.
2. Electronic Wallets are an option if you are playing on the international sites. I've used Neteller and Skrill (previously Moneybookers) with varied success. With a verified account you can get a bank card (prepaid or linked to your account) that you can use at local stores and ATMs (again - varied success).

I used to make good pocket money from Piggs. Would be great if they were able to return. Most of the time was able to make R900 on a weekend playing very low risk, would put R100 bucks in then withdraw when it got to 1k.

Where do you play poker now DrJohnZoidberg and do you know any landbased casinos that offer Pot Limit Omaha?
