Online poker

Used to play a lot a few years ago. Mainly on Poker Stars (and a bit on the iPoker ands PartyPoker platforms) at the Holdem Fixed Limit up to $10/$20 tables, as well as $20-$99 Sit n Goes with occasional MTTs (never won one of those though, but had a few final tables). Took it pretty seriously at one stage. Played 12+ tables at a time with Poker Hand Tracking Software. Would buy millions of datamined hands every week and spend free time analyzing all my plays.

Ran into trouble when I tried to withdraw my winnings. Got call from Absa with a notice about the blocked transfer and a stern warning about Online Gambling being illegal in SA. Took weeks to reverse the transfer and then months to find ways of getting my money out.

Played a bit on Sands/Pigs Peak but found the traffic and stakes too small.

Tried to get back into it about a year ago but the market has definitely dried up. The influx of fish caused by the Chris Moneymaker hayday is no more. At every table I'd spot at least 2-3 really good players and a few more average players. Not enough players boosting the poker economy to make it worthwhile to play. Not to mention that American players, which constituted the majority of bad players, aren't able to play anymore because of stricter laws.

I'm convinced the only way to make serious money with online Poker now, without relying on luck, is to have a very generous rakeback.

Pokerstars in the past. I need to get back into it. It's was a pretty vibrant community. Some of the world's top players compete there. I was disappointed with the mobile app some time back, I need to try it again.

I wondered about that - disappointing but thanks for the feedback.
