I'm having issues with connecting to Cell C with my D-Link DWM-156 (A3) modem. It's gets at best terrible EDGE connectivity no matter where I have it.

I need to use that modem because that's the only supported modem with the D-Link DSR-1000N. It's works 100% on Vodacom.

I've seen something about Cell C having a UMTS 900 network, is that modem not compatible?

Has anyone used any other modems with the D-Link DSR-1000N?
Does the Vodacom modem (on special for R399) work with Cell C?

Forgive a possibly silly question, but you are actually in an area which has a dedicated Cell C tower capable of delivering 3G or better? If not and you are getting your signal piggybacked from a Vodacom tower, you cannot get anything faster than EDGE speed because of Cell C's 'data roaming' deal with Vodacom.

Well supposed to be, tried in Woodmead and Fourways. If they arent mapped, Cell C is pathetic

Do you not have a 3G compatible CELL Phone - If you do put your sim card inside the phone - FORCE 3G connection (if your mobile phone has this option) see whether you are able to access CELL C 3G hotspot..

I wouldn't recommend using a router - if your signal is weak.

Thanks Richard, I have tried that in my cell phone and it works fine, got 3G, well thats what my phone (Nokia N97) said.

Help with DSR-1000N USB Support

Hi GMan,

I see you ate using the DSR-1000N. I am trying to get the router to detect the 3g modem but it keeps on saying "Device not connected".

I am really hoping you have some ideas?

Kind regards

BW

Hey there

First thing upgrade your firmware to the latest version the preloaded version doesn't support 3G modems at all.

I have given up on the D-Link DSR-1000N, I love D-Link but it still needs a few serious firmware upgrades. I'm not a Billion fan, but been using that, and must say starting to get really impressed.

Goodluck, and shout if you still have problems after the firmware upgrade. Also give D-Link support a call, they are really good and helpful.

PS as far as I know only the D-Link DWM-156 works on the D-Link DSR-1000N, so far anyway.
