...and you need to know a bit to be able to work wih these programs. I found Audition 2 to be the most user friendly of the lot. It is also worthwhile to get a proper soundcard like M-Audio if you going to record. Otherwise something like a Guitar Port could also work. In the end most of these programs are the same. You just need to find the one that you like.
 
Is Audacity stable these days? A few years ago it was crash-city.

I never realized that Adobe came out with such programs...Do you know if there's a trial for Audition 2?...

I've never used wavelab, so can't compare. Kalahari has some of their products, otherwise try places like T.O.M.S.
 
Thanks, I have an idea either T.O.M.S or turnkey might have it, sometimes they also have trial versions I'll find out Monday...I checked the download of the trial version it's big so I won't beable to download it this week-end as I'm on ISDN 64Kbps, I will download it next week-end at 128Kbps...It's half the time...

lol, I got given a M-Audio for free on these very forums. Okay its only the old Revolution 7.1, but can record at 24bit/96KHz.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'm only looking to record some stuff for Demos maby, but would like to get better quality that most of the home recordings that beginners do.

That's all you need. I've got the Audiophile 2496, and from the name you will notice that it does the same. :D

I am however looking to get a guitar port (usb connection) to test how that works. I'll only get one if i can get a cheap second hand one.
 
hmm... what exactly is a guitar port?

Do you plug your guitar straight into the PC through USB? I would think its better to go through your amp first and then just use the amps lineout or recording/headphones jack.
Thats how I do it, just use a cable that has a Guitar size connector on one end and a 1/8 sound card size one on the other end.

Vensters, it is exactly as per Disabled. Currently i am running through a mixer then pc. I want to swop the mixer part out for the port as it will be easier to connect and it is smaller. It's getting great reviews.

Disabled, i got it off ebay for R700 new.

PS: I would say that the advice you gave 'Ekhaatvensters' is about the best as your setup i.e. through a mixer first then the PC...That makes it easier to control...

Um, only thing that a bit weird on that line 6 one: "Windows XP and MAC NOT yet supported", maybe its a mistake.

Ill look into getting one of those if I ever get a bit more serious about recording guitar, how much do one of those cost, and can you get them at our guitar stores? I'm in CPT, never seen one of those at Bothners before..

I see what you mean yes they are currently working on compatability for Windows XP and considering Mac...

eventually they will have to make it compatable because most PC musicians use Windows XP and also Mac, so to increase their sales they will have to do so especially if it becomes very popular...Price well at £149 convert exchange rate plus shipping...Availability in S.A. right now not so sure, But T.O.M.S and Turnkey in JHB are always the first to import new Equipment more likely T.O.M.S...I'm sure there must be an earlier model that is compatable with Mac and Windows XP...I will find out for you and let you know...But on a serious note I would rather wait for this baby...

The port retails locally for about R2 300 (price i got from Andy McGibbons Guitar World) and the version that includes RiffTracker is about R2 900. The new version (XT) is Mac compatible. The line6 products have been available for qute a while in SA

Myself I've turned from Guitarist to Bass now I'm on Synths/keyboards...Got my eye on the Roland Phantum X88...Around 30G's cash price about 26G's...What a beauty...I'm looking for one second hand maybe ebay but by the time you've paid shipping costs and tax you may as well get it here...I've done my homework on this one...
