Fiber provider does no cater for UnoTelly DNS in ONT

Hi All,
Finally got the fiber running, but I use a Roku device for Netflix etc, problem is that I cannot set the DNS on the Roku and cannot set it on the ONT, a Calix T073G, does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking either a raspberry PI or another router before the ONT, set the DNS settings on the raspberry PI with IPTABLES or in the extra router?
Can someone think of another idea please
Thanks!

Setup a local dns server and a firewall/gateway on the pi, then block the dns queries from the ONT on the pi. Then the pi will issue the DNS.

Hi all
Using an old Linksys modem I've setup a DHCP server with Unotelly's DNS server addresses, so when a device connects to the network, it will get those settings, this worked for a week or 2 with no problems, then one night someone did something on the fiber network and below is what I have from UnoTelly's technician, SO before you sign up for fiber, make sure that you will be able to stream from Netflix, etc..
Yes I know it is not legal in South Africa, but then I'm sure that a big percentage of people getting fiber is for streaming from Netflix etc

Hi,

Based on the result of the OpenDNS test and nslookup test, it seems that your ISP is using transparent proxy or filtering services.

Call up your ISP to confirm this and if they could turn it off for you or make an exception for you to get UnoTelly working.

I have tried US Unblock, HideMyAss etc, then problem is that the ONT does not seem to have any intelligence build into it, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to setup a VPN that will be used by all my devices, so at the moment is have

ONT-192.168.1.1. > 16 port switch uplink

Connected to the switch I have the Linksys modem as a DHCP server on 192.168.1.2 and all my other devices connecting to the switch (Roku etc), the DHCP has the UnoTelly DNS settings and if I connect a device to the switch, I can see that the UnoTellys DNS is passed down to the device and NSLOOKUp reports the DHCP as the server.

Does anyone have another idea please... I think I must just go back to my 5mb line that I had before, at least I could stream movies...

*SIGH******

Hi Guys

Changes network side have been made to facilitate the use of UnoTelly , if you follow the instructions on UnoTelly's website click on the device you are using it will display 2 DNS addresses ,load them here dns ipv4.JPG and you will now access UnoTelly.

For those of you who are using media boxes Roku , Apple ect , you can if you have a router like Runspot it will now work if you dont have a router dont go rushing off to buy one. load a windows DHCP server which is free from http://www.dhcpserver.de/cms/ then log into your Calix ONT ( router) with Admin Admin and disable the DHCP , the windows server will then throw IP's and DNS's at the media device , you can even enter DNS into the Windows server too.

Really great guide to setting this up is on http://www.dhcpserver.de/cms/running_the_server/

Any issues i will gladly assist .

Happy streaming guys !

My Calix ONT 813G-2 from Greencom has DNS settings under the Quick Start -> Connect to internet
Maybe an upgrade would help?
