ONT tests fine but low download speeds

Good morning dear people.

I have an issue that nobody from the fibre company and ISP seems to able to solve.

My speed tests runs fine when my PC is connected directly to my ONT. However there is a marked degradation in download speed test after an hour. Upload speeds test correct throughout.

My download speeds (direct and p2p) crawl at 4Mb/s on my 200 MBPS line. Can the ONT itself be faulty?

After an hour since [what]? What do you/they do to get you back to ~200mbps?

You're lucky. I am on a 50Mbps fibre link and only get 1.7Mbps on downloads.
Downloading a game off Uplay was much quicker though.

Upon fresh PC boot and switching on ONT the speed test indicates 189 down and 188 up. After an hour it tests 127 down and 188up. Overnight it can drop to 66 down and 188 up.

Nothing running on PC.

You need to split the PC boot and the ONT boot.

188-ish speeds after a fresh PC boot, would point to* issues local to the network/PC or even your router, while a fresh ONT boot would point to issues that are unrelated to your specific network.

*Note though, that it points to, and is not a clear and definite sign.

What happens if, after bad speeds, you reset your ONT, but keep the PC on?

Thanks, will try that over the weekend and report back. What should a good down/up test look on the ONT on a 200MBPS line?
 
I noticed this happening on my network albeit its via router from time to time and periodically bounce the fibre CPE & wifi router to keep speed up. I am considering using a spare Sonoff switch to bounce via my server when i see the speed drops significantly enough.. but its like rarely slow enough for me to whine.. and when i do notice its slowed down below 5Mbps.

My suspicion was that it is either my wifi router or ont.. just not sure which. Since i periodically been bouncing the router + ont weekly I rarely notice it.. but given long enough it slows down (usually a few weeks.. hence me not caring as much as perhaps i should.. also i only get concerned in off peak.. during peak i care lesser if things still work as it is a contented service that i bought on isp level so i anticipate some shapping)

I should determine which is the cause.. just hasnt been top of my priorities.

Update:

So more tests conducted and results are all over the place. After a fresh boot of PC and ONT I even tested 800Mbps on my 200Mbps connection.

Technician tasked to bring replacement ONT on Saturday. Before that he tested outside my yard and, lo and behold my low signals as tested 2 weeks ago not resolved yet. That while the fibre company claims my line tests perfectly.

So now the wait for the fix at the splitter upstream :-(
