Vitali Laurentide Catch: Watch Ontario Gymnastics Coach's Quick Reflexes - Huffington Post

As parents, our hearts stop every time we fear a child is about to fall. So when one gymnastics coach saved an 11-year-old girl from an incredibly painful drop, we nearly had a heart attack.

Coach Vitali Laurentide, from Gym Magic Gymnastics Club in Burlington, Ont., used his fast reflexes to swoop in and catch young gymnast Cadence Tuite, who slipped during a warm-up routine on the uneven bars.

A video of the incident shows the girl attempting a handstand split on the high bar before she accidentally slips and seemingly falls head first onto the mats below.

Luckily, Coach Vitali swiftly catches her and tumbles her to safety.

The incident occurred at the 2016 Women's Artistic Gymnastics Ontario Championships. Following the event, Inside Edition spoke to Tuite, who says she “didn’t know what was going on” during her fall.

Tuite’s mom, Michelle, and many others are now praising the coach for his amazing catch.

“I'm so thankful he was there,” Michelle said. “It happened so fast. I thought it was the mat that was rolled up around her and then I realized it was her coach.”

Gym Magic Gymnastics Club also applauded the coach on their Facebook page: “Our amazing coach Vitali won an award at Provinicals (sic) too for Best Catch Ever! We are thankful to have such great coaches at Gym Magic!”

Way to go, Coach!

I watched in HD and she also thrusted her arm downwards anyway so I don't think it would have been that terrible a fall in the coach hadn't been there.

always thought gymnastics is a really dangerous sport,
surprised more dont get injured...

Agreed, nobody wants to end up like Elena Mukhina :(

was that temporary? or permanent?
looks like not such a big fall, compared to the ontario fall.

Permanent. Went for stem cell treatment, and regained a little hand movement, but that's all. :(

You can look up Ananth Rao gymnast, you'll get newspaper articles.

terrible, so his spine broke, when he somersaulted, that's horrendous....
was it a slip or was it a misstep? I mean he did the same thing before and it worked well,

I mean he is barefoot, and maybe he slipped on some sweat or something,

but according to this article
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...to-paralyzed-gymnast/articleshow/18133192.cms

stem cells did manage to treat him to a better stage from complete quadralegic.
so he can now move his arms and is confined to a wheelchair, but still very sad.

I still maintain gymnastics is a dangerous sport, like street racing....
youll do the same move a dozen times with nothing happening, but one time youll smash into a wall sideways doing 200 KM's

A spinal cord injury is my worst nightmare. I'll rather die. It seems at that one moment he just wasn't paying attention and landed on his neck. :(

It's not that easy to break your neck, but sometimes misfortune combined with some other factors results in accidents such as this. Google Boban Jankovic, the basketball player. Look at what he did and ended up a quadriplegic :(

In reaction to what he believed was a bad call at a crucial moment of a very important playoff game, Janković slammed his head hard against the padded concrete goal post. He permanently damaged his spinal cord and was unable to walk for the rest of his life

Geez, that's the last thing you would expect to happen

Shocking.

Look for Jesus Villa's stunt video where he tries to jump through glass panes. That is stupidity, but probably didn't expect to end up in a chair.

Anyway, back on topic. :o

I sometimes dont understand these peoples minds,
I mean they deliberately do these things and hope to come out the other side.

I admire and respect them for that, but another part of me screams, this is dangerous, you will finish your life in a wheelchair or worse....

I think its just foolhardy sometimes, they risking their necks for what exactly? a trophy?
yes I get that drive to compete and be the best, but surely their are much safer ways? than breaking your spine and having spongbaths....

For me, there is no worse.
