Hehehehe if anyone read my previous post on Motoring and transport thread about my sh**ygolf you would think i would never by a VW again,

however............................... i really did it again....:p i bought a 2008 Citi rox 1.6i 36 000km spotless.

Ok let me hear it . at least i was able to buy it cash and that was about 80% of the reason why i bought it. it will be going for an air con as well. i hope it gives me less grief than my old one.

on a non-related note does any one have one and how is the fuel economy

In keeping with the technological age of the Citi Golf: the fuel consumption can be as low as 3.9 Imperial drams per furlong. Pretty decent, if you ask me. When I had a Citi Golf though, it was probably closer to 5.7 f/dr in day-to-day traffic.

Pretty economical... if you avoid fitting a cone filter, 17 inch mags and a freeflow :D

congrats. and good for one. my citi never gave me a days trouble. now on 120k km....

Well, you might have guessed that I wouldn't find anything wrong with that decision...well done! :D

BTW, a visit to someone who supplies all safety equipment to SA manufactured cars in the Cape, produced an interesting little snippet, in that he was raving about how over engineered the Citi actually was...just one thing as an example...seat belt attachment fixtures made of 4mm thick metal, whilst the new Ford manages to get away with 0.5 mm of the same metal.

I would still rather have 0.5mm attached to a chassis made out of good quality steel than 4mm attached to a chassis made from tin.:D

Obviously you insist on staying blind...I said that it was the SAME metal...

Hence I indicated that the chassis was made from tin, not the seat belt attachment! Obviously you insist on staying blind?

If the car is actually so "over engineered", why is this not evident in real-world use? Safety, for example, is appalling in the Citi Golf - so if they have over-engineered things, they over-engineered them in the wrong places.

I would agree with Claymore on this one.

They can claim over engineering on the Citi as much as they want.. but the real world results do not correlate with that in the slightest.
