Opel Adam supermini arrives in SA

The claimed for that 1.0l is nothing to write home about. Expected better. The tested figure is even worse. I looked at these in Germany last year and it did look ok for an Opel. Not quite sure who the market for these are in SA. For younger people it's quite expensive. For older people it's not practical.

I don't know why they even bother with trim levels.

Why don't they just release one single trim at a given price and then offer you the differences in things that matter like manual or automatic.

Maybe diesel/petrol as well. One single trim and klaar with one of each engine type.

Then you don't need to compete on every bloody price tier and surely it must be cheaper to manufacture?

*****

If you look quickly that looks like a Porsche hatchback.

Haha, that starlights in the headliner! It reminds me of my old Audi's sagging headliner that I repaired with a box of thumbnails. Similar effect.

It is not meant to be practical, it is aimed at young buyers that want something funky. So this competes with other overpriced superminis like the Mini, DS and 500.

The Corsa is also in that price range - Opel will be competing with itself?

ALTERNATIVES

Citroen DS3 1.6 Style (88kW/160Nm) - R261 900
Fiat 500 1.4 Lounge (74kW/131Nm) - R209 900

The Fiat has the same 1.4 engine as the entry level Adam.

Not quite the point though...

Any sales numbers on these D3's and 500's?
Just because it's the same and the price is just as insane doesn't = sales :p

"Its diminutive dimensions combined with some funky styling and a relatively hefty pricetag, means it’ll appeal to a different buyer than the Corsa as well. The same buyer, as it just so happens, who’s drawn to cars like the Mini, Fiat 500 and Citroën DS3."

I might have to drop my VAG badge and join Roux, I love the look of this opel.

Car sales. December.

Fiat 500 = 47
DS3 = 30
Mini = 146

Hardly the numbers Opel is looking for imho.

Saying that, I still want to go drive one, hoping it would prove me wrong.
