Whenever I try to play any CD, I get an error CD displayed and the CD gets ejected.

Any ideas?

Writed CD's and original CD's

I push the CD in, get Error CD, then the CD gets ejected.

Yup. Your read head has shuffled off this mortal coil. (its stopped working) there is not much you can do except replace the whole unit.

There's your problem :p

Opel Astra 2005 < yes

my 85, 1.3 is still going strong dude, 955 340 km as we speak son. i only had to replace the fuel gauge with an aftermarket one because finding the original part is like finding a needle in a hay stack.

I save more fuel than some people use to start their cars :P

all i can say is .... they dont make em like ey use to ;)

Replace with a normal radio unit, a lot less.

Sorry guy, but those old Opels mileage resets at 100,000, not 1 million. Yours has probably done 195,534 KM.

What unit is that CD30 or CD30 MP3 ?

If you have to replace rather get an adapter to fit a single DIN unit and go with a regular head unit. I have done this before and it is not that tricky.

Strange, the CD30 MP3 is a pretty solid unit, better than the previous Siemens/VDO ones anyway. But they all tend to have a "CD Error" at some stage where the disc is stuck inside and it won't eject it. Just have to loosen the battery for a minute or so to reset it. Have you tried a CD cleaning disc in your HU?

Anyways, if you want to go with an after market unit then consider the following.

What you'll need to to is get one of these : http://www.autostyle.co.za/car-audio-1/fascia-trim-plates/opel-astra-radio-fascia-trim-plate.html

Then you can fit an single DIN after market head unit. There are a few things you will need to take into account though :
1) While the standard DIN fitting might work with the HU you buy, the power and aux-power lines are most likely swapped - something common on modern German cars. So you'll have to swap them back around. Did this when I installed a cheap LG HU in my 2001 Astra G.
2) If your car is very touchy with its CANBUS security setup you might have to ask you local GM dealer to "un install" the CD30 unit with the Tech II tool. Otherwise the car might not start at all.
3) Your TID/MFD might blank out the date line when the radio is switched on. This is so that the normal HU can display stuff in it but obviously the after market ones do not interface with the TIF/MFD. Not without a special and very rare adapter wire anyway. I am not sure what your wiring looks like but I manage to get the pin outs for mine and it helped me to cut the right wire so that the TID/MFD always displays the date (thinks the radio is off permanently).

Best is to google. You will find lots of useful info on local and German Opel forums and also in the UK Vauxhall forums. Its best to do this yourself because local audio shops do not always know everything about these cars.

Thanx Rouxenator,
Will rather stick with the factory fitted radio. Even though the CD is not working. I want to keep the controls for the info system as well.
