I have resolved some of the problems - flat spot - on my Corsa, but it seems I have created new ones.

I have replaced: - Ignition coil pack, the idle valve sensor, the hose from the airfilter with a new sensor. the fuel filter.

I have checked the timing, and it seems ok, with the tappets on number 1 cylinder rocking, and the piston at TDC.

The spark plugs are no longer wet, and has no carbon deposits. How ever it burns completely black. I use BPR5EY plugs, with a .75mm gap.

My new problem now is that the Corsa is smothering when I want to accelerate with power loss on inclines. It is also exceptionally heavy on fuel - approx 6km / liter! I have checked for fuel leaks at the filter, with the engine running, no leaks.

Please help?

It doesn't sound like you've really got to the bottom of it. You say you've checked the valve timing, have you checked the ignition timing?

How is it idling? Could it be somehow thinking the engine is cold and keep on choking it with excess fuel? That would partially explain the crap fuel economy and sooty plugs
