One of our delivery bakkies at work is a 1999 Opel corsa 130i. He's overall still in a very good condition, so no need to trade it for a newer one, but,

It's been a while now, that when you reverse with the bakkie, loaded or not, it stalls. Let me be more precise. You put the bakkie in reverse gear, no problem, it can idle like that. But once you pull away, it stalls. Now I have tried to pull away in first gear, with the handbrake on, but it doesn't just stall, but only in reverse. So it cant be that the brake pads it locking or something, it was anyway replaced a year ago, so that's still fine.

I checked if there is no mechanical part touching the petrol pipes, or any wire, I couldn't see anything wrong.

What the hell can it be? Cause I know if I take it to a mechanic, he's going to replace until he got the fault, and we must pay for all the unnecessary replaces.

Did you update the drivers? Flash the to newest bios... restart. O wait....
Is it just a flat spot? If you rev hard can you prevent the stalling?

does it idle in reverse with clutch in? Is there any grinding bearing noise? Does the clutch judder when you release it + add throttle?

:) yip, updated to the latest drivers!
It helps when revving hard, but just because, hope I explain myself good, it start reversing with more force, but then also stalls just like that. And with most car problems, it does not happen every time.

nope no judder, and yes it idles in reverse with clutch in. The clutch was replaced approx 10000 km back, and there was nothing strange there.

could be reverse gear itself...

The gear could be putting too much torque back through to the crank and stopping it from rotating... hence the engine stall when you pull the clutch out.

try push starting it in reverse while the clutch is in... battery on, reverse gear, clutch in... if you pull the clutch out and the car stops dead and doesn't start: reverse gear is to blame for not engaging correctly.

could be something as minor as the selector not engaging the gear 100%

could be the actual cog itself has been damaged (quite rare) and isn't meshing properly.

all the other gears still feel fine?
did someone try and tow somebody else in reverse?

get the actual gearbox looked at.

all the other gears are fine. I will try push start the bakkie in reverse to see what it does.

Agree

I had a similar problem with a uno a while back.
Long story short, the front brake caliper of one of the brakes lost a bolt and when you reversed the caliper moved against the
rim and forced the vehicle to a stop and stalled.

Might not be the same problem but just my though on the problem

Hey bud,

My wife had a 2003 Corsa with the same thing, we took it to a mechanic who advised us (okay now i am no car man) but he removed and replaced what is called a "COIL PACK" apparently two of the points had stopped firing and that was why we had no drive.

Since his fix we have had no problem.

Good luck bro!

Was it also just the reverse gear, or all the gears? See thats whats strange, its just the reverse gear.

Yeah like a coil pack is gonna care whether you are going backwards or forwards :D

Okay, this morning I run started the bakkie in reverse, no problem. Then while in motion, I reversed it a few hundred metres. It didn't stall, but it went all jerky, it's like it doesn't get petrol through.

Engine an gearbox mounts? Maybe in reverse the engine moves and kinks a fuel line or something...

I think you were screwed over.

I will check out the forum, thanks. I did check the mountings the other night, all were okay. I also thought of the feul line that could be squeezed or something, but it was clear of any moving parts all the way.
