I have an Opel Meriva 2005 with both orginal keys. After all these years of use the casing on both remotes has holes in and the one remote actually broke (the button and some small parts came loose).
Phoned 2 dealers for a replacement of the remotes only. One quote me R1400 (excl) and the other (R1700 excl). One also quoted (R500) for the casing (measures about 4cm x 3cm x 1cm) only!
The reason for the pricing according to them is that the remote must be coded...

Is there any other place than the dealers where the remote can be bought and coded?

Or can I use a generic remote and have it coded for the car?

Or any other option?

I stay in KZN.

Thanks in advance.

My 2004 Astra key broke, to replace, the dealers were quoting serious figures. I then tried Perdeberg Motors in Malmesbury, who told me I only need to code the key at the dealer don't need to buy everything from them. Costs included coding was a fraction of the cost of replacing the whole key from dealers.

Thanks. I came to the same conclusion when surfing the net for a solution! Ordered 2 casing and the buttons on ebay. Everything including shipping cost be about R220! :)

Pls check back when they've arrived. Both of my wife's meriva keys look like they've been mauled by a pack of wolves.

Last year I bought some fob casing off ebay for my Astra G and it works like a dream. There are some locally on BoB too.
