Open Crowd Sourced Adsl!!!

Guys,

I've been thinking, what if a bunch of us had to get together & start our own ISP - (Crowd - Sourcing), Costs to be worked out based on response - EVERYTHING TRANSPARENT!!!!!!. PM Me & if enough responses, I will create a website where we can take this further.

Regards
Patrick

Someone has tried this before on here.

The biggest question is how will ownership be structured as it's easy to close off the community and keep the proceeds of everyone's work and then just hire staff to take care the community work.

Maybe when you figure out it's Crowd Sourcing and not Croud Sourcing you might have a hope in hell.

But WUG's are exactly this already.

Get a Life Dude!!! It with regards Internet access. Not spelling Nazis. I'm feeling the water here & if there's enough response, will take it further. I have the inital capital and what's necessary. I am just sick and tired of getting a BS connection and then 101 responses why I should only get a 384Kb connection instead of a 10MB connection thatg I paid for.

Well in that case I'll burst your bubble now and tell you it's not going to happen.

ADSL is a Telkom product in this country, end of story.

Even it you do everything else yourself the physical infrastructure is still Telkom's.

So unless you go wireless you have no chance of crowd sourcing anything.

There are companies locally who invest in such ideas. the issue being of course that the idea must be innovative and beneficial.

If we could do this, I think the ''for ourselves'' may be the problem. On the other hand, if we were to offer a portion of the bandwidth to say distance learning schools - like 2Enable.org for example, we could well offer a better value proposition to the members, while being assisted or funded for being innovative and doing more for the country than simply doing this purely for profit'

It could be a win / win proposition. And be sure, Telkom being a parastal will want a piece of this for political gain.

Interesting thought .... and quite frankly, I would love to tell you why it COULD work rather than give you a reason why it CANT.

Good luck.

How are you going to impact or influence the actual ADSL line speed, which seems to be the real issue?

Thank you guys for the feedback so far. At this stage, everything is in the air. I'm trying to see if it is worthwhile pursuing this further if I a get decent enough response.
I am not interested in feeding the orphans in Ethiopia. I am simply interested in get a bunch of persons together who think it may be viable that we purchase bandwidth wholesale from Telkom for our own purposes. If I get enough of a feedback, we can do a feasibility study and see what all it entails. I am certain that there are going to be details that I overlook, but combined, we should be able to adress these issues.

If this is just a loose arrangement of guys without any structure - then good luck to the ''bunch'' as you so eloquently put it. :wtf:

I think I for one will stay with the more regulated ISP offering.

But good luck anyway pal.

Thank you for the wishes. JAWUG & the other WUGs also started with the idea that there could be a "bunch" of guys wanting to take things further.

If anything pans out from me putting out my feelers, fantastic!!! Else I'll shut up & buy my bandwidth like all the other sheeple. ;)

This has been tried before by a bunch of MyBB members. It got to a pretty advanced stage before the paw-paw hit the fan. I'll try to remember some of the participants.

hmmm didn't know about this. Details pls.

Thaks for the link MickeyD. I will read through it with interest. I am not interested in being an anarchist or such. I simply want to know if there is enough interest, are we able to do it, or simply brush it off as an interesting idea. I have the funds to get it started, but not the funds or experience to keep it ongoing. I am hoping that I get enough pragmatic persons together to make this a reality.

Dont you need an Icasa license to become an ISP?
