Hi all

An interesting piece of information follows.

iBurst is one of the only networks in ZA in which all the features of OpenDNS work.

Cheers

Good to hear but why is it that when I put the Open DNS addresses into my router I get the following message from Open DNS?

"Oops, you aren't using OpenDNS yet. Go back to Step 1 to set up OpenDNS."

Then when I try the Dan Kaminsky's DNS cache poisoning test at http://www.doxpara.com I get the following.

"Your name server, at 196.2.97.14, appears vulnerable to DNS Cache Poisoning.
All requests came from the following source port: 32772"

Hi all

Check the DNS poisoning angle and will get back to you.

Cheers

Maybe its done on purpose because the iburst dns servers are known not to work.I had to use the opendns servers twice this last week as dns resolution using the iburst servers went fubar

I get the following:
Your name server, at 196.7.0.138, appears to be safe, but make sure the ports listed below aren't following an obvious pattern (:1001, :1002, :1003, or :30000, :30020, :30100...).Requests seen for beb9e82cacd1.doxdns5.com:
196.7.0.138:53998 TXID=17632
196.7.142.132:46712 TXID=5512
196.7.0.138:44242 TXID=36355
196.7.142.132:58340 TXID=61783
196.7.142.132:34532 TXID=13051

Using OpenDNS (Forced) on my router.

Your name server, at 196.7.0.138, appears to be safe...

You do realise that a reverse DNS of 196.7.0.138 returns cache01.ns.iafrica.com, which implies that the Open DNS settings in your router are getting you about as far as mine are when it come to actually using Open DNS.

If I do the same for 196.2.97.14 I get (who would have guessed) wbs-196-2-97-14.wbs.co.za. For those who are wondering, no, that was not my assigned IP at the time...

Ta Mercury. Funny enough, if I try to access a URL that I have blocked using OpenDNS' system, I see OpenDNS' "This site is blocked" message. That didn't work before...

Your name server, at 196.2.97.14, appears vulnerable to DNS Cache Poisoning.
All requests came from the following source port: 32772

Due to events outside our control, details of the vulnerability have been leaked. Please consider using a safe DNS server, such as OpenDNS.

But I am using OpenDNS!!

DNS?

What is open dns and what advantages is there using it?

Check the DNS poisoning angle and will get back to you.

Any luck? I notice that is I am getting OpenDNS service if I type in a malformed URL but it still seems to be via a proxy according to doxpara.

Morning all.

SAIX only recently opened it up.

Opendns is a good service to use with iBurst. I see no problem in letting all forum members know about it.

Cheers

Shaun

Sure, however iBurst is not the only network that allow full services of Open DNS - needless to say due to the instability of the iBurst network the full services of Open DNS is only available for one week out of a month on iBurst network. (being liberal)
