Open letter to Cell C - RE: Network quality

I would dump them, given your situation. I think it will be many more years until Cell C has fully repaired their network.

Yep agree, what does it matter you have 100 free minutes, free data etc but you can't make a simple phone call? I've been with Cellc a long time but after recent upgrade (together with faulty phone) I'm moving to MTN, boss is on MTN and never have problems! I'll rather pay a bit more and actually get service!

I have also become disappointed with Cell C. I joined Cell C when the Bruce Willis look-alike from Switzerland, was head hunted as CEO to get Cell C up to speed (I forget his name now). He did a fantastic job at the time, I was getting amazing speeds - always above 8.5 Mbps. Cell C was my fastest network at my home, blowing away Vodacom and MTN. For about the last year it has become so slow, it is unusable. It can't even open a page.....I have just been to OOKLA to do a speedtest.....it can't even connect to the server to do the speedtest.
Something needs to be done to their network, and fast. It will be a catch 22 situation - people will leave Cell C in droves.....which will give investors no confidence, and reluctant to reinvest....and they will receive less income from their subscribers as people move away. Basically it will be a downward spiral to a point where they will have to close their doors.
Very sad to see, I have been supporting Cell C in a big way, with a number of contracts. I always like to see the smaller operators succeed, in the face of these huge rip-off companies (VDCM and MTN).

We have a lot to be thankful to Cell C for - they were instrumental in bringing the price of data down in a BIG way. Remember what Vodacom and MTN were charging us for data before Bruce Willis took over as CEO of Cell C ?

This morning on my way to town (Cape Town) while riding the train I was unable to send or receive any data, in spite of me having excellent signal and H+ connection. Nothing works. I might as well not have a 3G signal at all. This has been my problem with Cell C for the last couple of months. The only place I can use data on my cellphone is when I have wi-fi connection, which is either at the office or at home. I also have the problem that people call me and go straight to voicemail.

I am not even going to report this to Cell C any more, because it doesn't help. I am just going to finish my contract and then I will leave for either Vodacom or MTN. From the sounds of it maybe Vodacom is the better option.

Now they've come up with the idea of making WhatsApp free. This would be great if their network actually worked. I sent a message to my wife this morning when I boarded the train and it was delivered to her phone when I reached the wi-fi in the office.
