Hi All.

I've got a new Telkom Mega 100WR modem and probed it with ShieldsUp at www.grc.com

All ports on the modem was closed for outside connections, except port 1050, which is some or other Corba management port (according to grc).

Does anybody know what service this actually is on the router and how do I switch the service off, or close the port ?

Thanks
OD

Corba is basically a translator that allows components written in different languages talk to each other. I have no idea why this port is open. A bit of a search brings up a trojan called "minicommand" that uses port 1050.

Maybe try blocking the port with a manual firewall entry (should be clear from the web interface. check your manual).

Or maybe you could just forward tcp 1050 to some bogus ip

I have noticed a few routers have some high port open for the tech guys to be able to connect in a remote support case. Could be that.
