Open Serve/Telkom Misleading Info

I have checked recently if we have fibre in our area yet. Unfortunately we do not have, but I found that as per Openserve and Telkom websites we have 10mbps VDSL.

Chuffed about this I asked my ISP also to check, because VDSL would require a new router.

It was reported back to me that it is only normal 10mbps ADSL and not VDSL, because VDSL starts from 20mbps.

10Mbs is fine on adsl2 or multi-mode Dslam configuration it will not make a difference if it is VDSL so your existing modem should work fine on 10Mbs.

I think the meaning is really just that the exchange supports VDSL.

You are probably still too far away from it and therefore can only get 10MB which falls back to normal ADSL modulation.

All in all it's much of a muchness and really the same thing.

Even at 20MB you'll often find they still just run ADSL.

Telkom do not know their ass from their elbow , they are virtually dysfunctional the way they operate .
The system they use for orders and changing subscriber information is overly complicated and they have to many systems that do not interface wih an another .

Thanx everybody. It appears from what I read is that the exchange do support VDSL, but the 10mbps is still ADSL.

This is in any event better than what we had. Max 4mbps and it is now 10mbps.
