Anyone know if there is something(one) out or getting developed yet?

Maybe you should specify what kind of AI you are talking about? I don't know much about AI, but I do know that there are a lot of disciplines (e.g. chat room bot or facial recognition).

Yeah, intelligent systems is an extremely broad area. What do you want to use it for?

I believe open source will be the cause of humanities demise.
I just want to be a part of it :)

Seriously, just wondering what has been happening in the field and if there is anything that can emulate intelligence getting designed in the open source world as yet.

May also be fun to stick something on a pc and see what its like.

CILIB? http://www.cilib.net/ I always had a interest in swarm theory and how it ties into polymorphic code. Havent spend much time with it though :(

Haha, ok, now I see. AstorTurf, you've seen to many movies :)

Hollywood AI does not represent AI in the scientific world (which is what the rest of us are refering to).

The closest thing that you will get that resembles another human beign will probably be a chat program bot thingamabob.

Go look at AliceBot and the other Pandora bots. They're open source (IIRC) and an interesting start. Not quite Skynet though.

Hmmm skynet is probably closer to a combination of different AI types, such as a distributed neural net, perhaps with some rule based reasoning in cases where it can save time. Since it evolves on its own, it could also be classed as a genetic algorithm.

I suggest you wiki all of these terms! You'll get a better understanding of what AI really is.

I for one welcome our machine overlords. I just wish they'd do the Matrix rather than the Terminator way.

I made an AI program which can beat Malema in any argument... they say Solitaire is more impressive than my AI. No argument from me.

lol Hello World pwns all other programs :)

Ya look at CILib. Used it quite alot. But it's more focused on simulations and spewing out measurements for research than anything else.. No real visualization but it's nice cause you dont have to code. Just put together a little xml doc and you can simulate very easily.

Carefull now, I have the copyrights on the "Hello World" app...

On topic: The CILib site looks awesome; I will play around with that someday. I worked with some Neural Networks and Self Organising Maps back at varsity and found it quite interesting.
