Open-source emulator app coming to Steam

Open-source emulator launcher application RetroArch will launch on Steam on 30 July 2019, making it the biggest non-commercial emulation launch on Valve’s online store.

RetroArch is not technically an emulator itself, but instead provides a platform for users to download and install emulators at the tap of a button.

Can't wait for this.
It will show just how easy porting to PC actually is and the console exclusive excuse of 'it will be too difficult to port to PC' will be dead.

Console exclusives are crap and that practice needs to stop.

Yeah.... struggling to get neogeo to work on this mutha####er!!!!.

Installed mame on PC last night and streaming it to the Shield is a lot easier than setting up retroArch.

There are people without the technical inclination to install and configure an emulator who would be happy to pay to play Super Mario for NES or Banjo Kazooie for Gamecube. I think they're targeting those. Steam can be convenient.

Not likely to happen in any generation.

Perhaps not for XB1 or PS4 but its entirely possible that someone releases a emulator for XB360 or PS3... I'm willing to bet that there will be a fight about that.

In regards to GOG Galaxy 2.0, you still need your other launchers installed. It is like Ubi games, you still need Uplay irrelevant whether you purchased your Ubi game on Steam, Epic or any other launcher as Uplay is the actual service.

Just suspicious that they do it now that Galaxy allows plugins. And wouldn't you need the Steam client for this? So no different than Galaxy.

There are many apps available on Steam, it is up to developers and publishers to list it. Yes, you will require Steam to launch the app, because Steam launcher is in design a DRM.
