Who leaves their wifi on their android on all the time?, even when not in range of any known wifi networks.. i have an IT guy that says its not a good idea since it will always bounce to open networks and connect to them. Now i find this strange that android would automatically connect to any network not physically entered on the phone?

Unless you've previously connected to said open network I highly doubt it would automatically connect to them.

Wastes your battery,or if rarely the network has same name it would try connecting then disable the "stored" wifi network upon too many failures

It wont randomly connect to open networks, it will just scan for them...

BTW to save battery use Llama (free) or Tasker (paid) to turn off Wifi automatically when you leave work or home... easy as pie

You have to manually connect to an open WiFi network.

Android will never automatically connect unless you have connected and saved the network in the device's database.

The device will only inform you of open WiFi networks that are in range.

Hey, thanks for the cool tip! :)

Correct. This is default Android behaviour.

Not sure if your IT guy was thinking of other non-android fondleslabs/phones?
