Hi there,

I am having a problem opening Pastel company files over the network. The files are on another PC on the workgroup in a shared folder with 'everyone' having full read and write access. When I start Pastel, open a company, then browse to the mapped share drive and click on one of the companies Pastel just hangs and stops responding. If I copy the company folders to the local drive and click on a company, the company name appears in the dialog box and opens fine.

According to the user everything was working fine up until a week ago with no changes being made to the environment.

Any ideas?

Don't trust the user.

Something was changed for sure. Things don't stop working.

New antivirus? New user profile created on the Pastel server? Firewall disabled?

What is the server running? Windows XP, or Windows 2003 Server?

i would:

1)msconfig , disable all startup items except pervasive sql on all computers
2)run a spybot s&d + malware bytes scan
3)run ccleaner
4)test with a -t ping for about 1min for packet loss on lan. - maybe switch going tatta

just to test things.

Thanks for your input guyz...

Disabled the firewall on the client PC and company files can be accessed fine now.

@The_Librarian: Thanks for the tip.

@Arthur: I tried that and was doing this in front of the client.

Using the Pastel Express 04 exe I setup an exception on firewall but still faced the same problem. There are a number of other database related executable files present in the Xpress04 folder which I'll have to fumble through the firewall one at a time while not in the clients presence.

Look in the Pervasive folder, the executables you'll need are there. It's C:\PVSW or something like that. I'm suprised the Windows Firewall (I presume that is what you are running?) didn't pop up a request, as I've seen it do that before on other computers that had Pastel products installed.

Ah well, glad to hear it's working.
