I know a few of us have been wondering about it over the years since almost every other FNO offers it, so I thought I'd post this topic.

So it seems like Openserve are introducing (have introduced?) 1000Mbps fibre but not through their regular home fibre offerings. They are introducing it through their new (read: expensive) Fibre-to-the-Room/FTTR package.
Basically a normal fibre install, but instead of wrapping up the install with a normal router, they use a master unit and wire fibre to Wifi-6 capable slave units in every room.

And one ISP is already offering it, but boy, R2895pm for 24 months is steeeep. Free installation at least.

And some more info on it :
Introducing FTTR - the game-changing solution for power users who demand the best internet experience at home.

With neat, nearly imperceptible Fibre cables, gigabit speeds and WiFi 6 technology, FTTR delivers lightning-fast internet speeds of up to 1000 Mbps right into every space of your premises. Perfect for those who value both speed and style.

FTTR consists of one master FTTR unit and several slave FTTR units connected by optical fibers, realizing indoor all-optical networking.
The Master and Slave communicate with each other through optical fibers, which avoiding Wi-Fi signal interference and attenuation in distant rooms.
In this way, full Wi-Fi signal coverage and seamless roaming can be achieved throughout the house, providing consistent Wi-Fi access and premium service experience anywhere in the home.

Compare with Wi-Fi Mesh (Wi-Fi cascading to expand network coverage) solution, which Internet access rate may be impacted due to attenuation and interference when signals penetrate walls, but it is still an alternative way of Wi-Fi connection.

The FTTR solution was well received in the pilot projects.
Building on the success of the cooperation with Huawei, Openserve plans to launch commercial FTTR products in 2023 to provide an optimal home broadband service experience across South Africa.

One ISP indicated that FTTR might be still be on a trial, although in the MyBB article it says pilot projects were already done last year.

Hopefully affordable 1000Mbps makes its way to regular home fibre customers soon.

I've never known remoting or pushes to need much bandwidth.
Unless you're uploading model changes in a game project or something.
Some of us do share our connection with the rest of the folks living in our homes?

So for example 250 up becomes 125 or 62.5

Without pixel perfect calculations and running qos, with 2 or 4 persons you're still getting say 50 to 100, which normally is enough for "speedy" wfh. Why I say 500/500 would probably be great, but I may try 1000/500 if the price fits it seeing 500/250 already is a lot better than 250/x os version.

Even I like to stream, torrent, etc while I work...

If you have a family working from home, sure.

I personally have 400/400 but that's because we got grandfathered in through 100/100 speed upgrades.

It's nice not having to wait long to do something.

Will be very interesting to see what ISP's offering on 1000/500 on Openserve will be. If they can match the current +- R1500 pm that is charged on Vuma, Frogfoot, Octotel etc, then it will be great. Many people on Openserve wishes they can get 1000/500 speed on Openserve network. So far, the fastest line is 500/200

Any updates on this from ISPs perspective? Seems like its not something that is really being marketed a lot. Not that I intend on subscribing to it, my 300/150 connection is more than enough for my needs, just curious as to why this is so expensive.

Maybe Cool Ideas might offer it, been reading up on the FTTR and it is ideal for business.

Saw it on Facebook earlier this month but for the life of me, I can't find it anymore.

Edit: nvm, I found it

Yeah, also saw that numerous times on my FB feed on my side. Although its not something that is directly advertised on their site, even if you check all their packages for OS. @PBCool , @TheRoDent can you guys perhaps validate this ad?

Yeah, we aren't sure why Openserve is posting that ad, we've asked them to remove it multiple times.
