I need a static IP address to access my video cameras at home. ISP is webafrica. Is it possible on Openserve? I get conflicting messages.

Hi @BigVan99 each ISP has a different approach. It is most certainly possible, however just note that IPv4 address space is a scarce commodity, unless of course your CCTV system and router supports IPv6.

Would you consider running Dynamic DNS instead? That way should you change ISP in the future you do not have to go in circles again to get a static IP address configured on all your systems. Some DynDNS services allows you to use the service at no cost to you, however you may have to prove that you are not a robot every 30 days.

By using DynDNS you can port forward certain ports needed for your CCTV system allowing you to access your cameras remotely via the web/app.

Just ensure that your FW is up to date and that you lock your systems down with secure passwords as you do not want visitors from the web on your CCTV system :)

Depends on what the isp is doing. If they’re running a NAT layer - ie sharing one ip among customers then dyndns won’t work.

Sometimes it’s just a matter of paying extra for a static IP. ISP should be able to answer that

I've never seen a fibre ISP in South Africa using CGN NAT, I've only ever seen it used by the mobile providers. Most fibre customers should be allocated their own public IP address, albeit dynamically allocated.
