Good day
I recently applied for an Openserve fibre install. The fibre was installed and have received a one month trail period where I get 50Mbps download and 25 Upload. The ONT has wifi 2.4g and 5g. Was able to connect to the ONT wifi to test if I have internet access. Later decided that I want to connect my Pc via ethernet cable. So my question, does the ONT have internet on the ethernet ports? Do I have to use a specific port on the ONT? Or do I have to make specific changes to my router or just plug my pc directly to the ONT. I have used ethernet port one on the ONT to my router but did not have any internet. Any guidance will be appreciated.
I am currently with Herotel moving month end to Openserve/ Afrihost. Herotel works like this, I use the internet for the month of September, and at the end of the September month I get billed. Does Afrihost work the same way or does one get billed before one uses the internet.
Kind regard

Afrihost bills for the month in advance, you pay on the 1st of the month for that months service.

Regarding the Openserve ONT with Wi-Fi. I have not yet seen one that has any Ethernet ports enabled. The Ethernet port 1 is activated on the device on normal connections in order to connect your Wi-Fi router to the ONT.

Thank you
Yes there are four ethernet ports on the ONT. I know if one signs up for a Isp, port one goes to the router for PPPOE settings and so. Just thought that while Openserve ONT is running the free trail at least one port would have internet connection same as the ONT wifi.
Thanks for the feedback on Afrihost billing.

It will only be one port activated for internet access.

Which port? I would assume port 1 on the ONT. But after connecting my router to port 1 via ethernet cable there is no internet connection, but ONT wifi works fine. Just not sure if port 1 is correct or if there is specific router settings that needs to be done.

Just another question Afrigirl. If i have a test account, is the fibre speed linked to the test account or to the B-Number provided by Openserve?

Depends.

A capped DSL PPPoE account will run at the speed of the line.

Any other PPPoE account with uncapped data will run at the speed of the PPPoE package if the package speed is lower than your line speed. If the PPPoE package is higher than your line speed, it will limit out at the line speed.

I believe the ONT installed during trial sign-up is the same as the Web Connect ONT (a Wi-Fi-enabled ONT), and the port that is normally enabled on that ONT is port 3.

The fibre speed will be linked to the test account.

The fibre speed will be linked to the test account.
So if I have a 200Mbps fibre line speed and you provide me with a 50Mbps test account the speed would be 50Mbps?
So why do Afrihost need the B-Number if the fibre line speed is attached to the PPPOE, Openserve Username and password provided by Afrihost?

Just crazy the ping difference between the two. Thought Herotel would run off of Openserve`s fibre backbone.

I am not I understand the question. The Bnumber is provided by Openserve as a unique identifier for each line.

If you are going to sign up, please select new installation. We won't be able to receive a Bnumber from the 30-day trial run, they are ceased immediately after that period.

Yes, that is correct.

Openserve trial is like that, once you move away from the trial it should be the same.

Okey that's just weird. I thought the B-number is like ones phone number on a adsl line. It never changes, it just the isp that provides a username and password for the service that was selected. Because the technician marked the B-number on the ont with a permenant marker. If it's going to change after the 30days expire then why mark it? Just weird

It should be migratatable. If you sign up wit Afrihost select the option to migrate an existing line, it will have a text box for the Bnumber, enter the one on the ONT.

The same ONT can be used for normal Openserve and Web Connect.

AFAIK the only time a new install order is needed is when the BNumber is not provided/known or if Openserve has ceased it, like when a new order is placed on the line when the Bnumber is changed.

Just to add to this, my understanding is that since you cancel a service the B-Number is moved in to a holding pool for 7 days.
from which the new service can take it from there.
