Openserve options for 100 and 200Mbps

Openserve is live at my area but my R529 p/m Telkom uncapped LTE is just too good and making my decision so much harder. ~ 80Mbps on my Telkom uncapped LTE so that means 100Mbps and 200Mbps is the only option I will really settle for if I get fibre installed.

The list of ISPs are endless.

I'm looking at these options for 100Mbps.

Cool Ideas R1499
A360 R1399
Gigago R1299
Level-7 R1499
MTN R1499
Cellc C Fibre R1259
Easy Web R1349
Bron Berg Connect R1499


200Mbps:

Cybersmart home R1515
Afrihost capped 400gb R1466
Cellc C Fibre R1599


My budget is probably R1700 max.

The 2 ISPs from the list I know will probably be the best option is Aeonova360 (A360), Cool Ideas and Leve-7. I'd love to have a 200Mbps line but if I have to take it with an ISP that always going to give me speeds less than 100Mbps I might as well go for 100Mbps from an ISP that I know I will get 100Mbps most of the times.
 
Well, I'm on a 100mb Openserve line via Cool Ideas and I have no complaints about speeds. I download the most from Steam and NNTP and its always going full tilt. No issues with streaming either whether it is Twitch, Netflix, Showmax or DSTV Now.

Also, with CISP they don't shape or throttle, so you can go crazy with your line. The Cybersmart 200mb deal (if uncapped) looks appealing for the price, although I'd still go with CISP as one of their co-owners (@PBCool) is always active here on the forums if any problems arise.

So, CISP gets my vote for 100mb. If the 200mb line via CISP was cheaper, I would also go with CISP.
 
When looking at 100Mbps I've narrowed it down to.

200Mbps

c fibre is the only one in budget that might be half decent.

I like cool ideas but I'm really hoping for 200Mbps and at only R1599 c fibre seems like a decen deal. Some post about bad service now and then and the odd slow speed complaint but generally no bad feedback from either cool ideas or c fibre.

I like the fact that cool ideas has low latency to Brazil now. Can really work for me when it comes to gaming.
 
Personally I'd stay away from C-fibre, but if you're willing to take the chance, then why not :)

Realistically, would you really notice any issues even if you get half the speed of 100mb? Reason for stating this is that I sometimes use CellC LTE and even if I get 15mb speed, showmax etc has no issues in streaming.
 
Afrihost Premium Uncapped 100/50 for R1617 ... not a bad option, but CISP probably the better one. Support will also play a big role...

CISP/Frogfoot also seems to have very decent prices... but then there's trencing

Nope, technically not for steaming. 10mb would definitely suffice, although with a household of 3/4 members and each one streaming, I'd say 10mb is not going to cut it (even with 10mb symmetrical upload). It's basically just my wife and I and our 3 month old baby at this stage (which obviously doesn't stream...yet ;)) so yes, 100mb is overkill for the two of us.

But for me, there's no comprise for decent, fast and efficient internet, so I don't mind to foot the bill for it. 40mb would also be fine, however, the difference between 100mb and 40mb was only R200, so I said to myself "arrrgghh...#$^@ it, take the plunge for 100mb, spoil yourself for a change" which I eventually did :ROFL:

Fair enough. I am just surprised at many members (many threads here) getting less than 50mb on a 100/100 and I have really started doubting all these ISP's. I am on 10/10 and many a times I get less than half of that speed, at least as per ookla speedtest. I am not sure if we are getting our money's worth.

I have only had fibre since 13th December and it has been fantastic, I am in a new fibre enabled area so that might be why the speeds are more than the 50/5. I am super happy with Cool Ideas.

Do you have a fibre combo from Afrihost or do you have the line and data seperate?

I found that Afrihost only have average prices when it comes to 200Mbps openserve. Their capped deals don't look half bad if you add Afrihost Plus+ to double the data for cheap.

Cellc CFibre is by far the most competitive when it comes to 200Mbps uncapped Openserve. In fact they are unbeatable.
That is very nice speeds btw.

Combo. Had AH+ with my VDSL line . At the time I was looking the AH/Openserve combo was the best (only had Openserve as an option) Started with a capped 100/50 and then 200/100 capped. Due to later requirements, I needed uncapped and didn't want the hassle of switching providers and associated downtime , so I just stayed with the combo.

Ah makes sense. I was looking at the capped option from them but not too happy about the capped especially if something goes wrong and you leave something open and get capped which is not nice.

I took MTN Supersonic just because of their free trial and no setup fee or clawback fee. I will be sure to test them thoroughly during the trial month and if it does not work move to someone else. I really actually wanted a 200Mbps line just because you can download stuff you want now quick. Let's see how the 100Mbps go with Supersonic and take it from there. Stupid Freeze period needs to end too now. :rolleyes:

They dropped the ball when they promised data carry over on Fibre (similar to their ADSL) and then lied about the development of this feature for several months to their customers. Eventually they just turned around and said "no carry over" , which meant you had to either up your cap or run the risk of getting cut off. Luckily at the time I had to switch to uncapped, so not affected by their ****. At this point Openserve is running well (won't give AH the credit for that) so I have no real technical reason to leave.
