Hi Guys,

Simple question...how does voice work over Telkom based FTTH? Do you require to pay a line fee like ADSL or is it all included?

You can either keep your R189 p/m telephone line. Or move to a number of VOIP providers which cost way less. Some ISPs offer their own easy solution.

Ok Great, thanks

So the R189 voice line rental on Telkom FTTH is not mandatory like ADSL ?

What happens if I want to stay with Telkom Voice when i move to Telkom FTTH? Must I go the R189 line rental route, im guessing Telkom don't do VOIP ?

I am also in the same boat, I have two telephones, one upstairs and one downstairs. I am going to get a sip adapter rather, so I do not need to run network cabling and then use a VOIP provider. We only really use our phone for the intercom system and for my wife to call her folks in Durban.

Thinking of either Switchtel, or just using Skype (400min to mobiles and landlines) for $6.99

I went the voip route, for extentions i used the Gigaset A510, upto 6 extentions, and its DECT so distance is reasonably good

If you move to Telkom FTTH, then your VOIP line is just a R100 add on, and provides free Telkom-Telkom landline calls. You also keep your number.

Been with SwitchTel for over a year now... best service and products - crystal clear calls, immediate responses to emails/support tickets, and the cost is brilliant. I have ported family members over from Telkom, and have a VOIP number directly from them SMOOOOTH. I am on pricing package 2 @R49-00 per number per month, with per second billing. I work from home, call cell phones all the time, and spend about 6 hours per month on international calls to clients. My max. bill to SwitchTel is R700-00 per month.

EDIT: All above using Gigaset A510IP Base (incl. handset) + 1 extra handset. Can have 2 simultaneous VOIP calls (per VOIP number), along with an additional analogue line call. This works out great, as one VOIP number can be used by both my wife and I at the same time (we both run our own businesses from home).
