Hi guys looking for an opensource alternative to something like teamviewer (teamviewer.com) - where one does not require any portforwarding to set it up as its often a one time thing when I need access.

Windows platform.

Any ideas?

I use UltraVNC, but it requires an server on the PC to be installed and running.

Ifs its a one time thing, why not use windows remote desktop?

I'm looking for something that DOES NOT require port forwarding - oft times I only have to connect once and spending 10-20 mins doing setup is costly etc. So far teamviewer is cool but limits time spent connected.

Regards,
J

Is there one that doesn't need a user on the other end every time you want to connect? I can't get the ms one working, i think its my router though.

Yes... the LogMeIn one...

but the only limitation it has is that it cannot do File Transfer... not a problem though if you use Pando or Gmail.

I see no mention of TightVNC (the engine behind CrossLoop). But while I like CrossLoop, especially for it's 'reassure the user that I can't "hack in" without being noticed' care of them having to tell me the code and always being able to hit the great bit 'disconnect' button, I find it can lag horribly which may well be an itBust fault (and on which I need confirmation please: what's it like ADSL to ADSL?) so my question is: how do the others (mentioned here) fare with bandwidth-starved and latency-heavy connections?

Then, on an entirely different tack, which (here, or anything else) allow to leave a server/'locked door' running full time that allows me to go in as needed without the active participation of a user on the other side?
