Thought I'll give this ago.

2 hrs to download via the torrent 3.6gb, the DVD installation files.
About 1.3 hrs to install.
Tired now and need my bed.
Dual booting with Server 2003, and seems ok.

My 1st attempt at OpenSuse as with Ubuntu yesterday. will be messing around with it for the next year as I'm new to all thats Linux, Firefox, Mozilla, distro's and the new language and phrases that come with Linux.

Nice

Please post your opinions here?
Thanks
/me thinks its time to do the same...
is there a local mirror of the DVD?

My 1st crack at SuSE was last weekend [was trying to suss out how yast2 works], and it didn't go well with my rather slow <384kbits/s ADSL line, unfortunately IS doesn't have the iso images for SuSE 10.2 on ftp.is.co.za [using a local IS ADSL ISP account], out of frustration with the 10.0 LiveDVD which [-]is[/-] doesn't even include an installer [on a 1GB+ DVD] and didn't want to run on 2 of my machines, I resorted to downloading the minimal iso CD image, which then spent a whole day downloading more stuff from the net just to install a basic running SuSE system...my 1st and lasting impression is that SuSE 10.0 is extremely bloated.

Yes, I eventually found a local mirror for the SuSE 10.2 DVDs:

ftp://ftp.leg.uct.ac.za/pub/linux/opensuse/10.2/iso/dvd/

I hope all that effort was worth it
Don't they have free Linux distros in Zim? Thanks to Mark Shuttleworth you can burn a wide range of the latest Linux incarnations at Toasters around major cities and at the universities. You can also get them on the front of PC Mags. Hell, even the postal system would save such a long download. /.|.\

Don't know and couldn't be bothered with finding alternatives for the files. Had the bandwith, was willing to wait, gave me a chance to sort my vpn connection and remote policy whilst the download was taking place.

All in all I can now get some hands on experience with having linux on a 2k3 AD domain.
