openSUSE 11.2 download error

did you use a download manager? ALWAYS use a download manager :) If you did, just tell it to resume. If you didnt, im afraid you have a problem.

In rare, and i mean rare cases, I've been able to copy a half d/led file into a folder, opened a download manager on a new download of the same file and pointed it to the existing file's folder and it knew to resume the file.

try getright, dap, or whatever other one u can find thats not spyware or adware infested.

Please help !
I've downloaded 2Gb (out of the 4GB) already and now I get the following error message :
http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php/photo/13421

I was downloading the file from here : ftp://opensuse.mirror.ac.za/opensuse/distribution/11.2/iso/openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso

I don't want to start all over again :(

Your download stops at 2gb because of one of the following reasons:
1. You are downloading a file bigger than 2gb to a FAT32 partition
2. Use an application that can't handle files bigger than 2gb

Generally speaking #1 is the culprit most of the time.

If you are using wget put in the -c switch to continue where you left off, thats why I always d/l to my linux box first

Just make it a http instead of ftp. Seems their ftp server is not working right now. Juts make ftp:// a http:// and your download should continue if you used a download manager

did you use a download manager?

Yes - I'm using Internet Download Manager

Thanks - changed it to http - now I get the timeout error message

I'll just try again later - thanks for the help guys :)

Tried now and download works with no timeouts
http://opensuse.mirror.ac.za/opensuse/distribution/11.2/iso/openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso

there was a point when mirror.ac.za was unavailable for me. it is now.

but if you are using a download manager you should be safe.

Try using bittorrent to continue the download. Download the torrent file and open it using whatever client you choose (I use ktorrent). Stop the download then copy the original incomplete file you had to the torrent's download location. Select the check data option in your torrent client and resume the torrent download.

The torrent client should resume downloading from where you left off originally. I've also used this method to fix downloads where the md5 checksum was incorrect.

Edit: Oops, I just realised that my advice would use a hell of a lot of international bandwidth so it's definitely not ideal for most.

orin76 - different programs have different ways of saving part way images. starting a torrent will almost always mean that he starts from zero rather than where he was.

lexor - what happens when you go to www.mirror.ac.za?

I don't claim to be an expert in these things, but I have used the process to fix my corrupt opensuse 11.1 iso. I also used it when Neotel started acting up during my opensuse 11.2 download. I verified the md5 checksum in both cases. I'm not saying it will work all the time, but it's worth a try if you've tried everything else.
