Hi guys, im thinking about going for an "Openweb 10GB SAIX ADSL Account" from here: http://www.openweb.co.za/adsl/

Wanted to ask your guys opinion. Is it the same latency etc. as my current 3GB SAIX Telkom Internet account?

And what are your experiences with Openweb as a company?

Another question, why do Openweb not offer the credit card option for their SAIX accounts? I found that they only offer this with their IS accounts. Reason why im asking is that i do not fancy waiting 8 business hours for the EFT to be created.

Please note, with a direct deposit, we always require the proof of payment to be emailed to [email protected] Please note, Direct Deposit / EFT account orders can take up to 8 business hours to be created, after we have received the proof of payment. For instant account access, please select the Credit Card option.

Thanks for the advice guys.

PS: How much do you get out of a 10GB acccount roughly? Because i manage about 5-6GB with my current 3GB TI account.

I only use the IS accounts from Openweb and received great service so far. As for waiting 8 hours for EFT, I'm sure sure about it. Whenever I make payment via EFT my account gets activated within a few minutes even though the EFT can take upto three working days to clear since I use a different bank(I'm with FNB, Openweb is with ABSA)

I'm using openweb 5gb Saix account for last few months, and must say only good things. Not a single problem
Reason for no credit card is that their margin on SAIX account is so small that they can't afford to pay credit card company.
I pay EFT send proff to MrBeep and here we go. If you want to keep it for few months then aroud 25th you pay for the new month

thanks for the replies ;)

Keoma aka MrBeep told me about the profit margins... but they bank with absa so not a prob cos they receive payment immediately...

btw how much do u get outta ur 5GB?

I've had an Openweb 10gb SAIX account for a few months. Very reliable. Works just as well as the WA one I had before that.

But you will only get 10gb - no soft caps from ISP's unless you sell your soul to TelkomInternet.

I have 2 other Openweb accounts. I pay by debit order on the 1st of each moth. Everytime I change my bandwdith requirements, the amount to be deducted just gets updated. Saves a lot of fiddling around.

I use about 3-4GB every month. I'm not in downloading, using this for business. But as far as I know and Gatecrasher said no soft cap

Me too using openweb 5gb Saix account from last 2 months. very very reliable indeed. Response time is great. You should definatly go for it.

My wife has had OpenWeb as an ISP for about 6 months now, as she gets an ISP subsidy from her work, and works from home.

The main problem is that I recommend it on the strength of the quality, but...

Since she has subscribed to their service, we haven't had many problems, but when there have been (about 1 or 2 days in a month avg) she/we have always been a bit dismayed to discover that they only do support by phone until 4:30pm, and email support until about 7pm....

Well - I don't know about you, but anyone who trumpets (xcuse the pun - see their website) their excellence in 'price' (a bit more xpensive than the average) and service (well...), should actually offer service to people who need it!

I'm sure we're not the only domestic customer of theirs, and their flat unwillingness to even offer an after-hours service is pretty dismal...

I have used services of small wireless ISP's (WiSP's) before, and even with the battles I had there, there was always someone available until a reasonable time of around 10 pm or so for home users.
Sometimes we would call the local agent who normally was able to sort out any problem, but here we're stuck to making ourselves available to suit them.

This is not cool....

So my verdict is: reasonable service 8-5, but not really geared towards a home user.
