ok ppl im new to internet and stuff. i have a 2gig cap with mweb for R279 a month! now ive seen OpenWeb with a 5gig cap for R299!!

http://www.mweb.co.za/productsservi...ernetAccessADSLPricing/tabid/142/Default.aspx
http://www.openweb.co.za/fibre_adsl.php

so i want to know why is there such a huge diifrence in the pricing??

it might be stupid but im new to all of this and im not sure what to bring in account when finding a ISP but from that i think OpenWeb is waaaaaay cheaper!

plz dont give negative comments i just want some help plz :)

Hmmmm

ADSL Lite 3Gb (+ Up to 30 Gigs Local Access) R 199

www.skyway.cc

I think the diffirence is the backbone. If im not mistaken mweb is SAIX based and the cheaper option is mostly IS.

But that fiber connection from openweb is kinda cheap its semi unshapped so its not bad and its bandwidth through the SAT3 undersea cable.

Most IS connections had sattelite connections to overseas hence the higher latency. But if you download or browse you wont even notice and if you play games on local servers you wont see a diffirence! Then IS is much better! :-)

mweb sucks and avoid them like the plague

if it was not for the fact i need my email addy i would not be with mweb, i suppose 125 bucks a month for 2 emails is not to bad lol

mweb and telkom are the devil, telkom we have to live with but mweb we dont

tooone7, doesn't the M-Web offering include line rental while the other one is data only? Just skimmed it so I may well be wrong???

Huh, have none of you guys check the link?

Milano you are right, the Mweb offer includes your Telkom line rental for the ADSL line. It is still a lot more expensive than Openweb, but the 384kb rental should add about R130 to the Openweb price.

You should probably still move over to another ISP though, Mweb charge way too much.

M-WEB have huge over heads, while OPENWEB have less over heads.
Take for example M-WEB, would advertise on television etc.
Openweb, would hardly advertise.
M-WEB have a huge number of staff members.
OPENWEB - have less numbers. ..

All about over heads :) Oh not forgetting to market the ISP

nope i pay for line rental seperatly... thats just the data. im thinking of changing to Axxess, every1 seems pleased with them :P

Mweb is a shocking rip-off. Worse than Telkom themself.

Axxess are good, and so is Openweb.

Also take a look at Sainet. I've got a 6GB SAIX cap from them for R250.

Charging twice what the competition is charging for the same service is simply unacceptable.

thnx for the help, mweb really is a ripoff!! its sad really i couldve got double from OW or Axxess for the price i pay at mweb lol

Ok, then the Mweb website is weird cos the only 2gb cap for R279 that I could see says:

"Option 1: MWEB ADSL All Inclusive Bundle
This includes an ADSL line and ADSL data cap. No setup fees."

Or do you mean you may normal line rental but your adsl line is included?

now they have the all inclusive bundle, where you pay that price which includes the line rental. Sorry for the confusion :)

They only brought the all inclusive offer after i wrote this post.

mweb may have more overheads but they have so many more clients than openweb and rake in tons of money

thats like saying telkom has so many overheads and thats why they charge so much

Mweb is more expensive and their support center is rapidly heading in the same direction as Teslcum.
You pay around R300 for 3GB from Mweb and R239 for 5gb (SAIX backbone) from Openweb.

Added to this that with a smaller customer base ISPs like Openweb and Axxess will be more helpful and willing to help than some of the bigger ISPs (my experience only:p).
