I'm sure he would have said someone if he meant someone. After all the terms of a competition cant be changed after the event has commenced can they? So these sort of things are checked and double-checked before hand.

I see. I'm of the opinion that in future all competitions of this nature - especially where an entry fee is required - might benefit from prior administrative approval so as to avoid any similar misreading.

At R999 per 384k Uncapped account, it would not be logical, economical or possible for a company other than Telkom to give a prize to each person that sms's at a cost of R5.

Thus, I do not feel the post is as misleading as made out to be.

In future I shall not add any spot prizes to the competition after launch, as we all learn from our mistakes.

Once again, apologies to those who misunderstood the meaning of my post.

I agree, any such future competitions announced on MyADSL|MyBroadband, should first be approved by rpm, and preferably announced by rpm as well.

Hi folks

We have received a very generous donation of prizes from Sandisk and want to run two competitions to give these prizes away. The company will get exposure through the competition itself and a review of the products – and also great that they said that they are not interested in harvesting data from entrants.

The question is now what kind of competition we should run. It will be great if we can give some other parts of the site some exposure through it (like you have to post a blog or comment on it, or post a photo or leave a comment), but your feedback will guide us.

Please let us know what you think will be a cool competition where many members would like to participate…

However, this thread was not started by OpenWeb, or any of its staff. This was an email I sent out to all OpenWeb clients.

The only item that was announced by a representative of OpenWeb was the spot prize. It was never our intention to have this competition mentioned on MyADSL, and was solely the choice of an OpenWeb client to post the email on a public thread.

I vote to have this thread closed with immediate effect.

I did read through all the posts in this thread prior to posting, and was aware that the thread was not started by OpenWeb, I was instead referring to your post announcing the spot prize - which as bwana pointed out included wording that [IMO unintentionally] promised a prize to everyone that entered the competition within a certain timeframe.​

At least there is an isp thats actually having competitions and then giving it away to real natural person(s) here. Further more i am quiet sure if uncapped was less expensive and at the rates it should have been by those who sell it to isp's - openweb would have gladly given away more than one...
