Guys need some advice, sick and bloody tired of this Mweb Seacom issue.
To be honest I dont care who is to blame, I want what I am paying for.

Now the question.

What does Openweb Gold uncaped offer you over Mweb uncapped?
I am talking about the 4mb option for R738.
Are there FUP like the others?
What happens if you do 500 gigs?

What are the benefits? I dont mind paying more but I want what I am paying for.

Thanks guys

Just spill it FFS, i might climb onboard if they offer me less than 2 weeks of kuk every month.

I just cancelled with Openweb, I might rejoin if the Gold uncapped is worth it...

Openweb's Gold uncapped is a re-sold Mweb account, on their "Gold" network, whatever that means. So it's not their normal uncapped shaping rules, and it's not their premium shaping rules, but somewhere inbetween. It also means you'll suffer from every single SEACOM outage that comes up, just like now.

That's not true whatsoever. If you want a mweb account via Openweb, they'll supply you with the necessary forms you need to complete from Mweb's side and then give you your Mweb account. Although it doesn't explicitly state that on their site, Keoma did verify that for me when I first applied for my uncapped account with Openweb.

I'm not seeing how what you said differs from my explanation? When I asked Keoma, I was looking for an alternative to Mweb's crappy uncapped accounts too, and he told me the Gold Uncapped was also an Mweb uncapped ADSL account. There's a normal, Gold and Platinum package, all with varying levels of shaping, and as I understand it, all still using the same SEACOM backbone.

Gold uncapped does not run on Mweb's backbone, it runs on Vodacom Bussines's backbone.

I'm on Gold 512k uncapped and it's defenitely VB.

As far as FUP goes according to Keoma there is none, and they'll treat it on a per case basis (although 500gb's is a bit much for 4mb uncapped).

Well, it's the "Gold" version of their uncapped accounts (ie. you're paying for whatever extra performance that translates into) and whatever Openweb tacks onto the price (if they do) to make their profit margin.

I'd still love to hear from someone who has one of these if there is a noticeable difference in performance that makes it worth the extra money. (you know, assuming their SEACOM link is up long enough to test)

That's really interesting to hear - I still have the email from Keoma telling me it runs "on the Mweb Gold Network". Do you download heavily, and if so, are you still experiencing the heavy throttling and/or shaping on the Gold account?

See, that's why I pmed Marine in the first place as the Openweb Gold network is confusing, as far as I know, the gold network runs via Mweb (less contention ratio), and I/S (Keoma confirmed one of StoneCold's post, and possibly Vodacom too.

Look I haven't had one of the Mweb accounts so I can't really compare my 512k to that account, but here are my experiences :

So far I've done around 50gb's this month downloading wise.
Speeds on anything except peer 2 peer / torrent / rapidshare / newservers are FULL speed. Whenever I open youtube (even if it is 1pm during the day) I max out to 52kb/sec instantly. I get full speed on every other protocol except the ones being shaped.

My average latency at any given time is 22ms to mybroadband.co.za (if you want I could give you screenshots etc).

P.S when the SEACOM link failed last night, I was unaffected, as with the 2 previous times as a Gold member I was unaffected, hell I didn't even notice a speed DECREASE during the downtimes with Mweb.

My account is defenitely a Vodacom Business account, as I can see it when I do a traceroute :

Hi Keoma,

This seems to have made a big difference, is this the new upstream provider you mentioned? Vodacom business?

I’ll test it a bit more and let you know the outcome.

Regards

Pieter

Err.. If you read your account properly, you would see the traceroutes are running through MTN-NS, which is MTN Network Solutions, i have servers co-located at there offices in Johnnic. Its not vodacom at all.

That's the last couple of hops, the first 4 are VB.

Do a traceroute from your account then?
