What's the difference between [email protected] and [email protected]?

I have a Gold and a Standard account and not sure which is which. So far my experience is that the @openweb.co.za account performs way better so I'm hoping this is the more expensive Gold account. I'm using the @vb.co.za today at home and I can't access certain international site, Internet Exploder just sits there thinking......... (same with Firefox, Chrome).

Edit. Just loaded a Web Africa account and everything is perfect. The unwilling pages load with a blink of an eye so something is seriously wrong on the OpenWeb side. Again this is with a @vb.co.za account.

Silly question maybe, but have you entered your log-in details correctly. I got changed the other day, and thought my account was bust, but i had entered the details wrong into my router. On VB account and can't stop smiling. Awesome account.

Gold accounts are manually assigned to protect our network from over subscription.

Please email me your OW number so that I can jump you to the front of the queue - [email protected]

Working on weekends?

I got an email with the details a couple of minutes ago - thanks - perfect timing too, my 1GB just ran out and had to use my cellphone to download email :p

EDIT - if this is a sign of things to come, I'm hopefully going to be pretty happy - started a download and its at 400KB/s - last time I saw that was in May (with MWEB

Strange, seems that the guys in jhb get better speeds on vb. I'm in ct and on vb I get less than 1mb down and 0.29 up. But on IS I get normal 4mbps speeds.

I had a fantastic full speed weekend. Literally, from friday night to monday morning 7am, any time I downloaded anything on usenet, it was at full speed.

So far, I'm very impressed...

I'm in PMB, KZN. VB speeds are excellent. At one point i got 500kb/s??? don't know how, but i did. Oh, and as update, i played PS3 online over the weekend, gto better latency than when i was on capped option? Thanks Openweb.

Yeah man, VB backbone is king in my book, and I have also noticed those 500kb/s spikes you're talking about. :)

I speed limit some downloads, and then when I take the limiter off, they all speed up big time and I have even seen alt.binz go up to 1254kB/s... Awesome. But it lasts like 3 seconds :(

So with Openweb what determines if you are on the Vodacom or IS backbone?

I'm not sure, but I started on the vb backbone, and it wasn't working too well for me... So MrBEEP switched me over to IS... Been great so far. Over 100gb in December :D

Quick question - my account is @vb.co.za - what newsgroup do I use? The one provided by email doesn't work (news.is.co.za)

Unfortunately you won't be able to access any of the local ones xrapidx, especially not the IS one. You'll have to opt for paid international news servers, but believe me, its worth it. :)

Yeh - using Astraweb - but like a local one to give me a few more KB/s :) Not a major problem.

but you should be able to access news.is.co.za with an @openweb.co.za account surely?

Yes, if it is on the IS backbone (and it should be) then you'll be able to access the IS news server. Do a speedtest to confirm as you'll be able to see who the account provider is.
