Opera Mini for all Java Enabled Phones

Do you know about Google's Wap proxy? It does basically the same thing and its free. There is a wap version and an xhtml version.

For xhtml go to www.google.com/xhtml. You can test it in a normal browser. Eg. here is the myadsl home page formatted for a mobile phone.

For the wap version just hit the google home page from your wap phone and do a search. 'Clicking' through on the result actually sends you the Google preprocessed version of the page broken down to be easily displayed by WAP phones.

The technology is brilliant. The limitations for me at the moment are my junky phone screen (Nokia 6310i) and slow connection (4kbps GPRS). If you have EDGE/3G and a nicer screen it'll be awesome.

Thank you Jarr, i've been lurking around here for a while though.

I use Opera for my day to day browsing in Windows. (IE is the spawn of the Devil) It seems to me that Opera's small screen rendering technology is way superior than Google's. The other thing is that Google already knows more about any person using any of their services than i am comfortable with. Sending all my WAP browsing through one of their proxies is a bit disconcerting.

Check out this site if you want to know more of Google's shady practices.

It's not quite the same because Google strips out all the graphics...I've downloaded the file onto my K700 but it won't work outside Norway. :(

i've also gotten hold of a copy, and it worked for about a day, but then something weird happened... no matter what url i enter, it pops up the same webpage (webmail.co.za) - can't access anything else.

then, last night, i thought i'd try it with a mtn pre-paid sim, and it worked perfectly?!

anyway, in case anyone is interested, there are links to get the browser here
hope it works for ya... ;)

okay, just as an update, it is now working again on the vodacom network

:( Won't run on V800. Starts to load and then disappears and back at the standby screen...

for those that are already using it, or want to get hold of it, there is a new version of opera mini (v1.1), and it can now be downloaded directly from their wap site, and it's in english - no more norwegian to wade through ;)

just point your wap browsers to: http://mini.opera.com/my

works on the sony w800i with voda prepaid does not work with mtn prepaid probably a settings issue you cannot currently download with the official opera mini version

Thanks!

After initial connection error as experienced by MXit on my E1000, I finally find the problem to both java prog -- it was the default Vlive! Internet profile. After entering the Vodacom settings and setting it to the default, I'm now happily typing away this message through Opera mini. The only catch: Vlive! is no longer accessible unless I set the default profile back to Vlive! Thanks again!
